One of my in laws collects pins, so when I was shopping for her Christmas present I realized 'hey, these things are pretty neat!' Now I have a whole pinboard filled up and more pins on the way.

I have pins all over my bags, but I was worried about some of them getting lost or damaged and I wasn't going to buy a new bag with the clear cover just to display them, so instead I got some cheap pin banners off Amazon. First one is mostly stuff from Rainylune's pin club, plus a few others I purchased from their shop. The frog ferris wheel actually spins, and so do the little baskets on it.   This one is just misc stuff collected from all over. I've added a bunch of other stuff to it recently but I guess I never took pics.

Long time no see, pin thread! The stuff in my shop at present is either original or unofficial fan art. :P NFTs are the worst, I still don't know how anyone is convinced to buy into them.

If you already have the art made, then you would either go through a middleman or you'd find a manufacturer to use - and the thing with manufacturers is that experience varies wildly from factory to factory. It's why, within pin making circles, the majority of makers won't name who their manufacturer is. From a case I personally witnessed (which was... oh it was a dumpster fire), in one group two people asked for manufacturer recommendations, and someone replied with the one they were using. We'll call the original maker person A, and then the others B and C. So Person A had been extraordinarily lucky and hit gold on the first manufacturer they'd tried when getting into the pin game, and hadn't had to go looking for others yet as the quality had been consistent. Person B and Person C also tried the same manufacturer, and while Person C's pins came out wonderfully (and they got an extra pin), person B's came out with a high error rate and five extra pins. This was followed by Person B exploding at Person A for recommending a company that made them waste their money because the factory wasn't refunding and remaking, which is not a combo I have ever heard anyone get, and things were messy for... a few days before Person B got kicked. All three people had different reps responding to them from the exact same factory. So if you want to give pin making a try and don't want to go with a middleman (which, fair, they're more expensive), see if any of your friends make pins already and if they'd be willing to tack your design onto their next order (which would also help both of you with shipping cost and whatever customs costs you incur). Otherwise, check reviews on Alibaba, check to see if Pin Maker Resource on FB is open (it's always first week of the month), and then scroll through their reviews while keeping in mind that experience varies wildly so... grain of salt. When you find a factory, test them out with something fairly simple and under 2" as prices start jumping significantly from there, and go with their MOQ (minimum order quantity) of 50 units.

Bought this figpin because it was on sale and now I can't decide if I should put it on my pin banner or leave it in the box..    I also bought some keychains over the weekend and no I don't know where to put them either. There's some cute Gundam acrylic keychains from an artist that had a booth at the cherry blossom festival:  And some blind bag Gundam keychains. The Tekkadan logo is pretty sick but the other two are kinda meh.  Blind bag Madoka Magica keychain:  I love that Freedom Gundam and Felicia are making the same face here but eventually I took both keychains off this bag and put them on a cork board instead.  When you put a piece of fanfiction up on Archive Of Our Own, archiveofourown.org, it goes up with a "Kudos" button. Anybody who enjoys the fic can push that button, and then you get a happy little email saying somebody liked the fic. It's a spark of happiness in the day. This year, if you sent enough money to AO3's fundraiser (AO3 is nonprofit and hosts on its own servers so an ISP can't take it own) you got this pin as a reward.

New pins from this weekend! The four on the left were from a local artist at a festival; the four in the middle are from BoxLunch. Kinda bummed they didn't seem to have the other sailor senshi. Both of the Ariel pins also came from a festival and might be bootlegs idk, everything else at that stand obviously was..

So I am not an expert as Disney pins aren't where my heart goes wild, but from what I recall from listening to some collectors, IDing fakes has something to do with the 'waffle' pattern on the back of the pin. There are lots of Disney pin collector blogs though and they're always very willing to tell you how to spot fakes so you don't accidentally trade for them in the parks (the cast members won't trade for them so they already know how to spot them).
