I feel like a system where good things are only allowed to happen if slightly more than half the people agree they should happen is inherently hosed up. Suppose a majority of the people vote for better things for themselves at the expense of the minority. You don't have to suppose because that happens all the time. Then you've got the propagandist class whose job is to invent reasons to convince you that voting in your own best interest is actually bad. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHIdSxs5_eQ

Christ we should try any form of government that isn't created for or immediately corrupted in favor of an elite ruling class

the institutions of democracy are paradigm pillars of freedom and equality, just sometimes orange man bad and makes institutions not as good as they should be but fundamentally all democracy is the pinnacle of human achievement. national endowment for democracy is good because it's an institution of democracy meant to spread freedom and democracy and equality for all but sometimes it ends up being a little too agile in spreading freedom and freedom needs organic ground-up approach to equality

in American democracy the actions of the government have no correlation with the expressed preferences of the people governed, but a strong correlation with the material interests of the very rich. and everyone hates Congress in principle democracy is good but if it's a scam set up to run cover for oligarchical capitalist rule then it's probably worse than direct rule by oligarchs

A system of governance created by literal slave owning liberal capitalists favors the wealthy over the working poor? drat I’m shocked The 20th century illustrated how mass media (technology) politics can get people to literally vote out democracy in favor of fascism This continues in 21st century america simply by capital rebranding fascism as “property rights” and “democracy” It’s fair to say it’s always been a lovely system for various reasons hth

in my high school when kids walked in the main doors they were confronted with a giant mural with a quote from diogenes on it: "the foundation of every state is the education of its youth" so I thought a lot about that while I was in school anyway democracy is good if it's socialism but if it's liberal democracy then it's literally a scam

the greatest upliftings of national literacy, quality of life, life expectancy, and reductions of infant morality and poverty in history happened in nondemocratic nations and it isn’t particularly close, so I think democracy is silly and not worth the effort
