CONGRATS! Wait until you start directly experiencing some of those weird ... what are they called? Parenting instincts? Yeah, that's it.

Congrats. We had an ultrasound today. The radiologist said "your baby is beautiful" and I cried.

2 weeks from tomorrow is the plan... Mom just wants the kid staying put over the long weekend, as the hospital is an hour plus drive into Boston, and we're on Cape Cod. 4th of July traffic is measured in hours.

Best of luck, and hopefully yours waits after the holiday. Traffic with contractions sounds like it would be hell.

And yes, plenty of skin to skin and attention for baby. 3hr feeding schedule so been alternating with momma with who gets baby and who tries to rest between meals. We've got a 24hr stay at the hospital before they run some more tests and we're cleared to go home. Mostly just holding baby, feeding baby, changing diapers, filling out paperwork, eating meh hospital food, and trying to sleep 2hrs at a time when we can. Otherwise, plenty of time to shitpost TYVM.

Also, baby is a speedrunner, 13 minutes from dilated to birth, literally two pushes and she was out. Couldn't have asked for a smoother experience all things considered.

Had a flat car battery this morning (my fault, left an interior light on), and my LION jump starter was also flat. Are these things suppesed to discharge over time or do I just have a dud? It's maybe 3 years old, I think I last charged it 3-4 months ago.

On semi related notes:

Has anyone got the Milwaukee 12V tire inflator? Is it worth the money?

Why can't I get a jump starter pack that my existing tool batteries plug into? This seems like an absolute no-brainer for me, but I assume there is a reason they don't make one.

Munchkin #2 arrives tomorrow, and I think we're ready. Mother in law arrived on time to help with the toddler, and we only needed one detour to the apple store to remediate the terrifying bulging MacBook battery to get it out of my house before the baby arrives. In her defense, she hasn't moved it off the desk due to pandemic and had no idea how bad lithium fire is.

i have it, i really like it a lot more than the older ryobi 18v one i've used for a few years. its nice to be able to pick exactly the pressure you want and hit start and it turns off automatically once it hits the specified pressure. the fittings are nice on it too, i prefer a thread-on fitting rather than the toggle switch kind

You don't even need an adapter!

1) Disconnect the positive lead from your car battery. This is important if you don't want your car electronics to see 20V. TBH all auto electronics should be perfectly happy at 20V, but you're rolling the dice if you try it.

2) Use an M18 adapter to connect the M18 directly to the car battery. With Milwaukee's big chainsaw battery, this will dump 20+ A into the car battery. I use one of those 3D printed adapters and 10+10ft of 10 awg wire. It moves enough current to make the connectors slightly warm, but not enough to blow my 40A fuse. And yeah, you will want a fuse with kind of cowboy setup.

3) Let it transfer charge for 5 minutes. You're not recharging the car battery, just giving it a superficial surface charge to crank the engine. If your wires or battery get very warm, disconnect for a few minutes to cool down.

4) Disconnect M18. Reconnect car positive lead to car battery.

5) Start car, hopefully.

I've done this once in my 2000 Sienna. The dead battery was enough to click the starter contactor, but didn't even pretend to try to crank. After 5 minutes of charge dump, it cranked pretty well and started right up. I didn't disconnect the positive lead because I thought it would be ok, and it was. YMMV.

(For context, I was testing tertiary backup plans for solo offroading. Now I have a pretty good system where the car can charge the M18 chainsaw battery, the chainsaw can jumpstart the car, etc. It gives me a lot of flexibility in the face of wtf.)

Toyota, though likely no faster than a NA Merc diesel.

There’s an FJ62 that seems to tick most of my boxes; the miles don’t scare me if the engine checks out (and I basically have a spare transmission), some rust but I have some wiggle room to get that repaired.

I mean, certainly look it over and make sure it stops and turns and the wheels won't fall off, but it's probably less risky than a 10 year old nissan.

On the plus side I just saw some stats on our uk delta cases that said that out of 92000 cases of the delta strain Identified so far only 8% were double jabbed people. (I get no. 2 next week here)
I know this is less reassuring for you in Aus but your vaccines will happen soon so there is hopefully an endpoint in sight here!

Chance would be a fine thing for a lot of people. It was only in the last couple of weeks or so ago that the under 30s were given the green light. There's been some pop up places offering it to anyone that rolls up, especially the younger ones and the news are surprised when there's lines round the block after they spent a year saying "THE YOUNGSTERS WILL NEVER GET IT, THEY'LL BE THE ONES THAT PROLONG THIS AGONY FOR ALLLLLLLLL"

Deaths are down but a) I don't want rona in the first place because b) I don't want to potentially pass it to anyone else who may not have had a jab yet or who can't get a jab for whatever reason. :/

*edit: I should add that I saw something yesterday that suggests the government is going to announce that masks are no longer a requirement before the month's out. Things are already open now and the numbers are just going to keep going up and a bunch more get to experience death due to failings of those in charge. I hate it here, truly.

Bring a basic tool set and look everything over before you hit the road, especially the tires. We did around 3k miles bringing the 320i home when it was 35 years old. Biggest issue we ran into is the thing hadn't been driven much at all for the previous couple years.

Yup unless you have a legitimate medical reason why you can't get the jab you're a selfish rear end if you don't.
