AEW Dynamite for 7/7 via FWOnline.com

quote:

South Beach Strap Match: Cody Rhodes (w/ Arn Anderson) defeated QT Marshall (w/ Aaron Solow & Nick Comoroto)

Aside from the odd blackout in the middle, this was a very enjoyable strap match and a good way to kick off the show.

This was a four-corner touch rules strap match. Marshall didn't get a televised entrance.

Marshall tried to stall before the bell, so Cody attacked with a tope suicida. They strapped up and the bell rang. Cody immediately hit the drop-down right hand before choking Marshall with the strap. Marshall tossed Cody onto the ramp, but Cody pulled him into the ropes. Cody then used the ropes to assist on a powerslam. Jorge Masvidal and Amanda Nunes were shown at ringside.

Cody whipped Marshall repeatedly with the strap. He exchanged words with Solow, who attacked (as it's no disqualification), so Dustin Rhodes ran out, sending Solow into the front row and up into the stands. Marshall used the strap to hit Cody low, then whipped and choked him with it. Both men touched three turnbuckles consecutively, but a scramble for the fourth resulted in a German suplex from Marshall as the count reset.

Marshall went to keep up the beatdown on the floor, but Cody pulled Marshall into the ring post. Marshall was busted open. Cody touched three turnbuckles, but the lights bizarrely went out in the arena. Marshall used the distraction to beat Cody down and stop the count. They fought on the top rope, where Cody choked Marshall out. He went for a top-rope Frankensteiner, which Marshall countered into a powerbomb.

Cody stopped Marshall from touching all four turnbuckles, so Marshall hit a Diamond Cutter. Marshall touched three, but Cody forced an interruption and was met with a whipping for his effort. Cody fired up and demanded that Marshall hit him before making his comeback and running wild with strikes. He hit the Cody Cutter in the center of the ring.

Arn called for the end. Cody hit three, Marshall tried to interrupt it, so Cody just low blowed him. He spit in Cody's face and received three Cross Rhodes for his efforts, allowing Cody to touch all four turnbuckles for the win.

**********

Shawn Spears cut a promo. He addressed Sammy Guevara, saying it was Guevara's ego that got him in trouble last week. He was interrupted by a chair thrown by Guevara, who said "this is far from over."

**********

Kenny Omega & Hangman Page promo

Kenny Omega and Don Callis were introduced by Tony Schiavone. Callis immediately took the mic and told Schiavone to get lost. He's going to give Miami a history lesson, but was interrupted by "You got fired!" chants. Callis moved down the list of AEW World Championship challengers that Omega had beaten. All the fans are in the shadow with the God of pro wrestling.

Unfortunately, there's a problem: they've beaten everybody. "We want Hangman" chants, then the Dark Order's music played. Evil Uno led the Dark Order out and said he had a few questions for Omega. Uno wants to know why they're ignoring the crowd, and why Omega's afraid of his friend. "Cowboy poo poo" chants.

Omega asked Uno what the capital of Thailand is and low-blowed him. "It's Bangkok, baby." The Good Brothers and Michael Nakazawa came out and attacked the Dark Order. Hangman Page's music played, and he ran out, fighting off both Good Brothers. Omega was alone in the ring, and Page was in perfect position for the Buckshot Lariat, but he didn't hit it.

They faced off in the center of the ring. A Karl Anderson distraction allowed Omega to escape to the ramp.

**********

Darby Allin & Ethan Page interview w/ Jim Ross

JR was uncomfortable because both of these men have talked about ending the other's career. Page didn't see anything wrong with it. Allin said Page was angry about how much Allin had accomplished in such a short time. He said Page was complacent as a big fish in a little pond, and that Allin made it to AEW before Page angered him.

Page said that he plucked Allin from obscurity. He brought Allin in and up from professional wrestling. Next week, in the Coffin match, he's going to take Allin out. JR closed by saying he doesn't have a good feeling about the situation.

**********

The Pinnacle (Dax Harwood, Cash Wheeler, & Wardlow) (w/ Tully Blanchard) defeated The Inner Circle (Santana, Ortiz, & Jake Hager) (w/ Konnan)

Santana and Harwood teed off on each other from the opening bell. Santana went for the Three Amigos, opting for a German suplex on the third. Ortiz tagged in, they hit a double team, and then a Northern Lights suplex followed for two. Wheeler caught an Ortiz leapfrog and hit a powerslam before tagging in Wardlow who hit a gutwrench powerbomb for two.

Harwood tagged in, but Ortiz caught him with a powerbomb and tagged in Hager. Hager hit the Hager bomb and sent the Pinnacle packing into the break. During commercial, the Pinnacle regained control when Harwood flapjacked Santana onto the top rope.

Once back, a cutter allowed Santana to reach Ortiz for the hot tag. The Inner Circle worked together to take out Wheeler, but Wardlow ran in to break up a pin attempt. An FTR double team sequence on Ortiz got two. Ortiz countered a vertical suplex with one of his own and tagged in Hager, who ran wild on everyone.

Wheeler countered the Hager Bomb, so Hager locked on the ankle lock. Harwood broke it up, but ran into a big boot. Hager called for Wardlow, who tagged in. They traded right hands in the center of the ring. Hager escaped out of a suplex and went for the ankle lock, but FTR entered the ring on a distraction from Tully, hitting the Big Rig for an out-of-nowhere win.

– Konnan attacked Wardlow after the match, but Tully chop blocked him from behind.

**********

Karl Anderson cut a promo. He said Jon Moxley had been a big problem for the Good Brothers. He then challenged Moxley to an IWGP United States Championship match for next week, Fyter Fest Night 1.

**********

Chris Jericho & MJF Face-to-Face Standoff

Somebody ran into the ring during Jericho's entrance. Unsure if it was a plant or not, but if it was, it was very convincing.

MJF dared anyone in the crowd to try that. He said Jericho's here groveling for one more match, saying it's "sad." But it's understandable, because everyone wants a piece of the king of AEW. Jericho said he should've let that fat bastard come into the ring and beat MJF's rear end.

Jericho said he'd accept any stipulation MJF put in front of him, including "having sex with your mother... again." MJF said Jericho wouldn't rattle him, because that's what the people want, and he doesn't care what they want. He used to look up to Jericho, following every step of his career, including the Jon Moxley feud. Jericho made Moxley wrestle every person in the Inner Circle, and MJF's gonna take that blueprint and make it better.

MJF loved Greek mythology growing up and his favorite story was the "Labors of Hercules." Jericho's going to have five labors. The first four will be opponents of MJF's choosing with unique stipulations, and Jericho will have to win them all back to back to back to back. The fifth is MJF, and when he beats Jericho a third time, maybe he'll learn MJF's better than him and he knows it.

Jericho accepted, because he's the god of battle, the god of thunder, and the god of war in AEW. He's going to beat MJF and ruin his life. "That ain't no mythology." Jericho then signed the agreement.

MJF stopped Jericho from leaving, saying a deal is not done until both parties shake hands. He demanded Jericho shake his hand, or the deal's off. Jericho shook MJF's hand, wouldn't let go, and pulled him in for a Judas Effect.

**********

Britt Baker was with Rebel backstage. She said the only positive that came out of last week's match was that it was another win for Baker, but an innocent person (Rebel) was hurt. She talked about ratings, and the match only happened so Vickie Guerrero could bring AEW Andrade.

Baker told Tony Khan to enjoy his blood money, saying maybe next AEW could run a show in Saudi Arabia. Nyla Rose is never getting her title back. Baker's not just sending Rose to the back of the line, she's sending her back to obscurity. They're going to call Dallas the big "D.M.D."

**********

Andrade El Idolo (w/ Vickie Guerrero) defeated Matt Sydal

This was a decent debut for Andrade, but he has yet to set himself apart in AEW.

Andrade wrestled in dress pants. Sydal tried to roll him up early on but was met with a twisting suplex. They fought on the top rope and Andrade sent Sydal to the mat. Andrade went for a top-rope moonsault, Sydal rolled out of the way, but Andrade sprung up for another moonsault. Sydal picked out Andrade's leg and hit a jumping sole butt. He climbed to the top, where Andrade pushed him to the floor ahead of the break.

Sydal avoided a corner knee and turned around with a spinning heel kick. He laid in more kicks, including a nice question mark kick, before rolling Andrade up for two. Andrade decked Sydal with a lariat and went to the top rope. Sydal met him at the top, Andrade picked his legs and went for the diving stomp. Sydal avoided it and hit a meteora for two.

Andrade came back with running knees in the corner and hit his hammerlock DDT, which he's now calling El Idolo, for the win.

– After the match, Andrade tied up Sydal's arm in a belt and wrenched on it.

**********

A dueling Christian and Matt Hardy video promo played. Christian always got the better of Hardy throughout the years, but Hardy was upset about Christian betraying his trust at Double or Nothing. Christian told Hardy to get on his level, or get the hell out of the way. They will have a match at Fyter Fest Night 1.

**********

Malakai Black (formerly Aleister Black/Tommy End) debut

This was an awesome, simple debut, so much better than anything Andrade's done yet.

Arn Anderson was with Schiavone in the ring. Arn said it was great to be in Miami. He was interrupted with another blackout like the one in the Cody match. When the lights came back on, Aleister Black/Tommy End was in the ring. He hit Black Mass, his spinning heel kick, on Arn. Cody ran out and stared him down, but was met with a Black Mass of his own.

Excalibur announced him as "Malakai Black," and he left Cody and Arn laying as the segment ended.

**********

They recapped a taped segment from earlier where Ricky Starks cut a promo on Brian Cage. Taz came out to shut it down, but then Cage came out and beat down Starks' security. This was oddly put together and difficult to recap.

**********

Orange Cassidy & Kris Statlander defeated The Blade & The Bunny

This was chaotic and the rules were optional. It was the second intergender match in Dynamite history, after Cody/Red Velvet vs. Shaq/Jade Cargill. No intergender wrestling, the men must wrestle the men and vice versa, not that AEW bothers to follow those rules.

Loud "freshly squeezed" chants right away. Orange did some schtick with Bunny, then the match officially began. Blade countered Orange's tornado DDT with a powerslam. Orange countered the follow-up into a stunner before the women tagged in.

Bunny hit a knee lift, but Statlander came back with a powerslam. Statlander hit a long delayed vertical suplex. Bunny rolled out of the way of a senton and Blade grabbed Statlander's boot, allowing Bunny to take control ahead of the break. Once back, Statlander hit a Falcon Arrow for two. She climbed to the top rope, but Blade distracted Statlander by attacking Orange, allowing Bunny to hit a German suplex.

Blade tagged in, hoping for a countout on Orange. Statlander goaded Blade into an attack, then Orange made his way back into the ring with a crossbody and a tornado DDT for two. Statlander hit Area 541 on Blade, but Bunny pulled Orange out of the ring on the pin. Blade produced brass knuckles and rocked Orange with a right hand, but Statlander had made a tag. Statlander pushed Bunny into Blade and hit the Big Bang Theory for the win.

**********

Earlier today, AEW officials awarded Jungle Boy with a trophy for becoming the first roster member to reach 50 victories.

**********

Schiavone was ringside with Dan Lambert, who was also there with Jorge Masvidal and Amanda Nunes. He moved into the ring and started cutting a promo about being skeptical about AEW, because AEW sucks. He started talking about old-school wrestlers and how they were so much better.

He talked about what Tony Khan did to put over the company, saying AEW has tons of styles and varying levels of experience, from legends to up-and-coming stars. Lance Archer, flanked by Jake Roberts, ran out and decked him before hitting the Blackout.

Not sure why this needed to make TV.

**********

Next week's Dynamite lineup for Fyter Fest Night 1:

Coffin Match: Darby Allin vs. Ethan Page
FTW Championship: Brian Cage (c) vs. Ricky Starks
Christian Cage vs. Matt Hardy
Yuka Sakazaki vs. Penelope Ford
IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship: Jon Moxley (c) vs. Karl Anderson
Hangman Page promo

**********

Don Callis joined commentary for the main event.

AEW World Tag Team Championship Street Fight: The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson) (c) (w/ Brandon Cutler) defeated Eddie Kingston & Penta El Zero Miedo

Kingston was wearing a Terry Funk shirt. The Young Bucks accidentally superkicked Michael Nakazawa early on after the latter tried to help them. Kingston and Penta sent them into the barricade for their trouble. They cornered Cutler in the ring, but the Bucks attacked them with chairs before they could do anything. Kingston and Penta turned the tables and dropped both Bucks onto the chair.

Penta hit his diving dropkick to Matt's posterior, this time through a chair. They brought out tables. Penta tried to send Nick into a table, but Nick stopped him. Nick also stopped Kingston from superplexing his brother onto a table and powerbombed Kingston onto it himself. Penta hit a running destroyer on Matt through a table at ringside.

Nick soccer kicked a trash can into Penta's face ahead of the break. There was plenty of good action during the commercial, including Kingston being sent through a table – way more than AEW usually allows. Once back, Nick hit a senton bomb through a trash can onto Kingston for two. Penta hit a thrust kick and sling blades on both Bucks before a lungblower senton combination.

The Bucks overwhelmed Penta with the numbers, hitting a Northern Lights suplex. They then hit a cannonball enziguiri combination on Kingston seated in the corner. The Bucks set up for More Bang For Your Buck, but their opponents broke it up with a thrust kick, a half-and-half suplex, and a DDT. Kingston locked on a sleeper, but Nick hit a 450 splash on the official as Matt tapped frantically.

The Good Brothers slinked out and teed off on Kingston, but Penta took them both out with a tope con giro. Penta went for Fear Factor, but Matt flipped out of it and speared Kingston. Matt tried to get Cutler to spray Penta, but Frankie Kazarian appeared and powerbombed Cutler through a table. Penta and Kingston hit Fear Factor followed by the spinning backfist. They got a visual pin, but when an official finally ran out, Nick pulled him out of the ring on the count.

Kazarian attacked the Bucks, but the Good Brothers took him out with a Magic Killer. Kingston produced thumbtacks and Penta smacked Matt with a trash can. Penta and Nick fought on the top rope, with Nick hitting an avalanche hurricanrana on Penta, who landed on the tacks. Kingston broke up the cover at two. Matt had a bloody nose.

Kingston ate stereo superkicks, the Bucks threw tacks into Penta's face, Matt put tacks in Kingston's mouth, and Kingston ate a superkick as the Bucks covered and retained.

Yeah this is most likely. Nak wants his final match to be with Tanahashi, and that’s clearly much easier to get done without uprooting the family again to move back to Japan by just signing with AEW and making a handshake deal with New Japan and do some of the big shows over there in a Jericho or Mox sort of schedule while doing a more full-time schedule on US TV. It also makes me think the NJPW/WWE on and off negotiations are probably about him more than they were about Bryan as they try to find ways to get him to re-sign.

And Sami’s clearly been done with WWE for, god, a couple years at this point. There’s probably some room in his house where he just notches the days until his contract is up.

If he wants that he could just do limited dates for New Japan they don't care about people doing a few special matches.

I'm glad they only did it once on the show too, and during Cody's match. In hindsight it's foreshadowing, and more than once would've felt like a bit.

I have a pretty short list of only about 4-5 people and then I'm good. I think we'll see a noticeable shrink in the roster as they continue touring again too, or at least more people rotating out and back in later.

That kind of brings me back to something I mentioned in the GDT, which is that if we're talking more people getting TV time, I'm fine with getting an extra 5-6 minute match in favor of less filler. Jericho's singalong could've been the tail-end of PiP, the MMA guy yelling could've been a social media clip, they don't need a full wrestler's entrance just to interview someone, etc. If they added a quick Women's "in action" match featuring one of the ranked top 5 against an unranked challenger, or Miro beating on Griff in a TNT defense, I'd be totally fine with having peaks-and-valleys match lengths. I'm glad they managed to get 5 matches on the card tonight, but it's usually about 4 max with promos for the rest of the time. I don't see any reason why they shouldn't be able to swing 3 matches per hour at minimum.

They almost always do 5 matches. When they don't it's 6 more than 4.

MJF didn't specify anything really about the opponents other than they'd be "of his choosing", i imagine we'll get Spears and Wardlow, but really curious about the other 2, probably one surprising in house talent and then maybe a one-off *fRoM yoUr pAsT*

He's been good pretty much all year and his last Dynamite singles match was great.

Also good to see Tony feeling himself so much that he has Dan Lambert come on to be a stand in for Jim Cornette. I would have personally had Riho kick his rear end but Archer was acceptable.

WrestleTix estimated the Queens presale at 7,500~ sold so far, I would guess 8,000+, some people think 8-9K.

After the first full day on-sale to the general public WWE's MSG show was at 6,300. So the most conservative estimate puts AEW up 1,200 on the MSG show before the pre-sale is even over. And that's WWE with pre-sale + general public on sale!
