I know BYOB is always up to tackle the big questions in life. Why are we here? What are we to do? What is truth, if we can even know it? And, more important than any of those trifles: which song about a horse is the best song about a horse? Let's find out, shall we? My first nominee is Tennessee Stud by Jimmie Driftwood, who wrote over 6000 folk songs in his life and played all of them on a home-made guitar with a fence rail for a neck. Not only is it a cool song about a cool horse, it also kinda sounds like a horse, which is neat! What is not neat are Driftwood's lyrics about Native American people but, Jimmie Driftwood owned an "American Folk History Museum" roadside attraction that might be the chintziest thing I've ever seen so, take this video with that grain of salt. About a cool, cool horse, who, by the way, fits the Hero's Journey remarkably well, assuming the horse is the hero (and Uncle Fudd's letter of recommendation counts as supernatural aid, which I think is a fair interpretation from a horse's perspective). Suffice to say there's a lot going on in this bouncy little story song. What other cool horse songs are there? Which one do YOU think is the best? Also has Clodagh Simmons doing a secret little drone in the background with her very unique voice. I won't say it's the BEST horse song, but for my own historical reasons, it will be hard to beat as my own favorite horse song.
