I am currently waiting in a giant queue to get swabbed, but given my symptoms over the past 48 hours it seems fairly certain I’ve got the COVID.

Aches, sore throat, and holy hell the SWEATING. I have probably slept for 36 or more of the last 48 hours. I wake up fairly frequently and I am absolutely drenched.

0/10, would not recommend.

UK gang, who's having fun with the petrol shortage that's apparently not a shortage but we have no drivers to deliver petrol which has caused a shortage (but isn't a shortage)?

I went into town to catch up with a friend on Friday and we went for a little cycle and ended up sat in a park for like 6 hours talking. During that time the traffic queue on the main road which leads to an Asda petrol station half a mile or so away was constant. We got back to his house and I threw the bike in the car and drove home past another station which had traffic backed up onto the road. On the way back I pass a station, nobody there, call into another to pop a tenner in as I'm under a 1/4 and there was two other people there. Even further out, my local station had a single car in it. City folk be panicking it seems.

I picked up a motorbike last week but I have a CBT to take Tuesday before I can legally ride the thing. Solid timing it seems which would be a first for me.

If it makes you feel any better, apparently parts of the US are having a similar driver problem, though ours is mainly the same issue lots of low-paying, high-expectation companies experiencing, mainly that a lot of folks decided it wasn't worth it for the money they (don't) pay.

Also, if I'd have been one of those truck drivers, I'm pretty sure I''d have just driven my truck through the fence and gone back home. At worst, I'd get put in jail, where there is food and facilities.

In random chat I overheard "LulaRich" being this years "Tiger King" of documentaries. I have watched the first episode (Amazon Prime) and it is definitely a wild ride so far. A co-worker suggested a podcast and if you are the podcast listening type I would say "The Dream" is very good. I have nearly burned through both seasons in about four days.

This. Let him talk to a professional and disconnect and/or reach out to us as he feels comfortable doing. Sometimes having a bunch of people barging into your situation can just make it worse when all you want is some time to sort poo poo out by yourself. And fwiw, I did get an admin to contact him that day and reach out with what resources SA has compiled to help goons going through some poo poo. chug as much gatorade as you possibly can. i had a medication change that made me the single sweatiest being for a few weeks and until i got on the gatorade train (about 1/4 the amount of water should be gatorade/other sport drink) my muscles done hurted so badly.
honestly the sweating was the worst side effect considering i was in an unheated flat during winter where it would be 14c indoors during the day.

I've had cucumber water once on accident and I hope that's the last time. I didn't realize cucumber water was a thing so I just kind of stared at the water dispenser for a bit trying to figure out how cucumber slices mistakenly ended up in there.

Tell him about the blower!

So, hey, electronics expertens!

I have several older LaCie drive arrays (4Big Quadra - USB 2.0, FireWire 400, FW 800, and eSATA) that I've been using on my file server at home. These things are at least a decade, probably closer to 15 years old. So far, I've lost 3 power supplies. Thankfully, they're external bricks, and a 12V.

Problem is, they're 6.67A, and every "replacement" I've found that isn't too much $$ is 4.5A. I got one of those, and it died in less than a year. At least it had the right plug, which is you garden-variety barrel connector, but with a smaller pin than the typical LED light strip socket. 2.5mm, I think.
Regardless, I was having trouble finding a brick to do the job for less than $50. The wrong one was $25. A friend suggested I give up on the prefab bricks and just use an open frame power supply like he used for his astronomy photography rig. It's like $20 for a 15A supply, and I can just stick it in a plastic box.
So I did that.

It's even adjustable within a small range.

I cracked open the old ones I kept (for the specs and the plug, mainly) to get the output cord.

So, I'm guessing some of you can see what I'm about to ask.
Those two capacitors (1000 micro Farad, if I'm reading right) on the right (output) end. Those are bad, right? Well, one on the first one, both on the second. If so, would that kill them? The one with two bad caps is dead, period. The one with one bad cap worked, then doesn't after a certain time (that one was fun to diagnose...)
I wanted to ask before I bothered to try replacing the caps. I mean, I have the new power supply, and it works great:

But it would be nifty to have the old ones working as well. I have four of these drives and currently only one original power supply. One of the arrays is running off the power supply for a smaller "2Big" array, rated at like 5A, and I'm sure it's overstressed.

I could run both arrays from this one new one, but I'm not sure I want to do that, since the last time one of the power supplies failed, it corrupted the array. Thankfully, it was the backup volume that time, and I just flattened it and backed up again once it was working.

Just looking for an opinion, basically. Or better ideas, if there are any.
At some point I need to replace the arrays with either a single big drive each, or another array. Something that has USB3, or is a NAS, maybe. They're both 8TB, 4 x 2TB drives, and the drives are old-ish, but still newer than the enclosures, former server SATA drives that were upgraded.

Basically, I need these to keep running until I can build a FreeNAS or UnRAID NAS box. I got some ideas and guidance on that form some of you earlier, but I need to get over being a cheapskate and buy some hardware.

Can you get a UPS with a regulated 12v output? If that's a thing that'll cover your power loss and supply needs in 1, but I guess it won't be $25 cheap
