i watched this while looking for a match to tell others about in the greatest match of the 00s tournament, unrelated but somewhat related to the match going on and how it would have related to one of the matches actually in the tournament. i won't say any more about that, and couldn't find that match that i wanted to find, but this one is between the same ppl and cool https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajbc_kcuoJ8 forgot to say weirdly it was uploaded today, the day where i wanted to find the match that isn't this match but is these competitors. just wow Cavauro fucked around with this message at 21:26 on Sep 1, 2021 |

recently I watched all of Chuck Taylor's undefeated PWG run. the match where Chuck finally wins the belt is so good. Zack is such a despicable rear end in a top hat in it. Zack hits Chuck with a belt and Rick Knox refusing to count and yelling "I'm not gonna count, you hit him with the loving belt!" love Rick Knox. right before Chuck hits the Awful Waffle into the thumbtacks he has this enormous goofy smile on his face because he's so happy and the crowd goes wild. upon this review 2015-2017 PWG Chuck Taylor might be one of the best booked wrestlers of all time

this weekend was the coolest because I got to see Zack Sabre Jr turn into an indie megastar right before my eyes. on the first night before the show he had no merch lines and then immediately after the Men of Low Moral Fiber vs. Mt Rushmore match he had probably 50-70 people lining up to buy shirts from him

On Wednesday I was watching random old PWG matches (Danielson/Joe, Danielson/Omega, and of course Zack/Chuck where Chuck wins the belt) Bard Maddox posted:recently I watched all of Chuck Taylor's undefeated PWG run. the match where Chuck finally wins the belt is so good. That Knox moment is one of the things I'm waiting on in AEW to help build the cache of "we don't really do DQs, but here is how referees discretion can be emphasized to gently caress with a heel cheating." Bard Maddox posted:upon this review 2015-2017 PWG Chuck Taylor might be one of the best booked wrestlers of all time hell yeah.

on the flip side ive been slowly going through all the pwg shows and it’s a miracle they survived long enough to become the super indie they did. joey ryan is just the dirt worst and every title match sucks with a bad finish. super dragon and davey richards both rule but all of their tags are literally 30 minutes too long. i’m almost through the weeds though just finished bola 2005 which had some super sick dragon gate matches plus funny stuff like matt cross being unable to keep up with anybody. remember matt cross? good times.

I watched the first 2 nights of the Stardom 5 Star GP from a month ago & they were both very good with some great matches. Especially Syuri vs Maika. At some point I got my hands on a compilation based off of a poll the DVDVR board did listing the 20 top lucha matches of the 90s, & then I promptly forgot about it, until now. So decided I may as well put it on & have a look at match #20, El Felino vs Ciclon Ramirez from May 1993 CMLL for the NWA World Welterweight Title. It's not a bad match but I can't see why it'd be the 20th best match of any decade unless there was only 20 matches that have survived on tape. It's part of a feud that's been on going for a while, leading up to a mask vs mask apuestas match in July. Which to my knowledge is higher thought of but isn't on this comp? Anyway, each guy has a second, Negro Casas is in the corner of Felino, Ringo Mendoza in the corner of Ramirez. First fall is some standard lucha stuff, fun matwork, great tope suicida that takes out Felino & the first 2 rows at Arena Mexico, and after about 10 minutes Felino taps out to some sort of cradle submission that looked cool. So far, so good. And then the second fall goes weird. There's some good stuff but it comes down to Felino pushing over Casas & clearly Casas doesn't forget because about 3 minutes into the fall Felino as Ramirez in an octopus stretch, Casas gets on the apron & throws in the towel. Yeah, the guy he was cornering was doing the submission when he threw in the towel. And the ref just goes with it & awards Ramirez the 2nd fall & so the match. Really bizarre. I get it's setting up an angle at least go for the plausible deniability bit of Felino being locked in a submission that isn't going to make him quit. So yeah, this has me baffled, surely the match on the DVD was meant to be the apuestas match from July?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNg85R893Fc Just watched Tenryu vs Mutoh from 2001 and it's so good it's unbelievable. 51 year old Tenryu is a sight to behold and Mutoh is just an absolute gremlin for this entire match trying to destroy Tenryu's leg. Tenryu hits an absolutely incredible brainbuster and does a fantastic old man top rope frankensteiner. Crowd is great throughout. I like to consult the observer archives when I watch old matches to see what else was going on in the greater wrestling world and here are some tidbits from early June 2001: -Liger had just won Best of the Super Juniors -The eight-week streak where Raw declined in ratings finally ended after two of the company's best weeks of television, when Raw on 6/4 from Minneapolis drew a 4.25 rating (3.93 first hour; 4.54 second hour) and a 6.8 share. -Eric Bischoff was implicated in a racketeering case related to an Atlanta strip club. -The preliminary estimates for Judgment Day are that the show did a 1.13 buy rate which is about 485,000 buys. -There's a letter from Ellie Hart about Owen's passing and telling Bret to get over Montreal

Currently watching Stardom stuff and conducting an argument with myself about whether I can justify another monthly subscription. I watched one of the more recent 5 Star GP shows and had equal parts "wow, all these people are really talented" and "wow, the only person on this show who stuck in my mind was Fukigen Death". I'm sure if I committed to watching a bunch more shows I'd really get into it, like I really got into Noah, but I'm currently watching enough wrestling that it's become a question of what I would have to put down to pick this up.

i would respect the young bucks a lot more if they would kill off wwe by doing whatever passes for serious wrestling in 2021. kill wwe first then you can do the avantgarde comedy matches that require the audience to understand indy wrestling tropes. it will just turn their audience into a small cult and they will completely stop growing at some point. it will be ecw all over again with the same people in the audience on every show trying to get themselves over

The first wrestling I ever watched when I was a kid was World Class Championship Wrestling, so lately I've been on a nostalgia kick for that and watching some old WCCW stuff on YouTube. On the one hand, a lot of it doesn't hold up well because ye gods is Bill Mercer a terrible commentator (he gives 1980s Vince a run for his money in the "what a move" stakes when he doesn't know the name of a move); and sometimes it's downright depressing watching the show with the knowledge of what happened to a lot of the people on it: the deaths of all the Von Erichs except Kevin (and I fast-forward through anything involving Fritz because gently caress him), the deaths of guys like Bruiser Brody, Gino Hernandez, and (post-WCCW's demise) Chris Adams, stuff like that. On the other hand, a lot of the in-ring work was really solid and hard-hitting (as Michael Hayes said, they tended to work "snug" quite a bit), and there are very few feuds that got as much heat as the Von Erichs vs. the Freebirds. And they managed to make the Sportatorium look like an actual big-time sporting locale. I've also been checking out some of the old Bill Watts Mid-South/UWF stuff as I haven't watched it in a long while, and it's interesting how tangled up with WCCW the UWF really was when it started up, because Watts basically plundered WCCW (which was hurtling headlong into its' decline by 86/87, leading to a lot of its' talent bailing on Fritz over money issues) for a ton of the people on their roster: Chris Adams, Iceman Parsons, Missy Hyatt, The Missing Link, the Freebirds, and a bunch of others...only to get plundered themselves by Vince and the WWF (when guys like DiBiase, One Man Gang, and several others went to the WWF) later on before they folded and sold to JCP. E: and it's also neat to hear Jim Ross back when he was actually trying to call wrestling in a very "legit sports" manner, as opposed to the style we're used to hearing from him circa Attitude Era-WWF to the present day.
