Welcome, everyone, to season 41 of Survivor! We've had OVER A YEAR with no new US Survivor and finally we're back baby! Survivor airs Wednesday, September 22nd on CBS! Check your local listings. PAY ATTENTION TO THIS: Some basic rules, which should be no-brainers for pre-taped reality TV:
Now for all of the boiler plate poo poo for new viewers in case you’ve been living under a rock for the past 21 years. What is Survivor? Survivor is a reality show where a group of 16 to 20 or so contestants, from all walks of life, are stuck on a remote paradise and forced to live together for A typical Survivor season has three phases. Pre-Merge, Post-Merge, and Endgame.
This Season’s Gimmick This season is going to be only 26 days, shortened from the usual 39 and, per Jeff, will be brutally hard with no food rewards or given rations and require much faster gameplay due to the shortened schedule. We really have no idea what's to come from this season gimmick-wise, but Jeff has said that there will be less of the typical gimmicky stuff and just more old-fashioned gameplay, which should be great! The prize purse is back down to $1,000,000 from last year's 2...which is dumb and stupid considering how much money this show makes vs its cost, but hey I guess the million dollars is still something (despite inflation causing the 2000 equivalent to be $1,585,383). Supplemental Material
Glossary of Terms
Okay so enough of that, let’s get to the good stuff. This cast is all newbies so I don't have anything clever to say but here's pictures of them and something that might make them interesting or good tv or something I don't know. Brad Reese He's from a town named Shawnee, which sounds like Shonee, one of the most interesting AUS Survivor players. Also is tall. Danny McCray Ex-NFL player whose biggest pet peeve is lying. This should make him really good at Survivor. David Voce Wants to play the game like Russel Hantz, which means he's probably very cool and chill. Deshawn Radden His preseason answers are actually not bad, and I can't make fun of him for anything. Eric Abraham Going to have a hybrid playstyle of Richard Hatch, Wendell Holland, and Boston Rob. Will incorporate NO QUALITIES FROM NON-WINNERS Erika Casupanan Has been manipulative before she knew what manipulation was. So, is a sociopath. Evvie Jagoda Her answers to every question are so long my eyes rolled back in my head. Will probably never be able to succinctly address anything. This season's BB23 Kyland I guess. Genie Chen Doesn't look to be a fan, but biggest pet peeve appears to be people not wearing masks, which is going to be probably everyone on Survivor. Heather Aldret Has a passion for opossums, which is gross. Jairus Robinson Wants to play like some of the "great Survivor winners" like Fabio. Fabio. Liana Wallace Seems smart, good answers - can't pick on her because of her answers to the questions she got asked! Naseer Muttalif Didn't use a real toilet until he was an adult, aquadump 4 lyfe. Ricard Foyé Pet peeve is asking a question and then being ignored, which is pretty drat presumptive of a deaf guy. Sara Wilson Is quite confident she's the biggest physical, intellectual, and social threat ever to play Survivor. First boot material. Shantel Smith Hero is Xena Warrior Princess, and was in a gang! Sydney Segal - image is kinda nsfw, depending on where you are Wants to play a Natalie White game, so I guess be boring player who does nothing but sits next to someone retched. Also her press picture is basically softcore porn so not gonna show it. Tiffany Seely Says she is a "previvor" but gives no definition for this, so is probably insane. Also tries to use the phrase "situationships". Xander Hastings Is the token for CBS's new initiative to have someone with an X name in all of their reality shows. Thanks CBS for doing what's really important. Well I guess that's it. We get started in a few weeks after BB ends, so pick your ponies and poisons now. Here's some additional links to info about these people as it comes out. I haven't had a ton of time to make this OP due to work/family commitments so if you think it sucks too bad. https://parade.com/1255355/mikebloom/survivor-41-cast/ https://parade.com/1257947/mikebloom/survivor-41-tribes/

I guess I should give my pony/poison as well! Pony: Deshawn Poison: David Same as Big Taint! David just seems so arrogant from every video I've seen of him. So hard to tell from preseason press stuff they do because they're all using these canned answers that production pushes them towards, and they all sound the same. Hopefully week 1 we can get real insight into how they will play out.

The Bloop posted:Yeah I think people are very hungry It's funny, in the latest Survivor South Africa season there was a big debate about this and Kieran went on this grognard rant about how you don't get any benefit from chasing around crabs etc for food because the calories out are more, despite Chappies doing just that AND kicking the poo poo out of everyone in every challenge (setting a challenge record) and dominating until he slipped and lost only one challenge. so in summary, getting food is always worth it, especially if you secretly hoard it and don't share!

Lampsacus posted:Shout outs to Survivor South Africa season 8 its super fun. Its not perfect but it feels to me like real old school survivor. like, you will probably hate it if you want optimized, clean play and you will probably love it if you like messy, mistaken-ridden, low budget survivor. I love the survivors and the host, the temperate, windy locale is fresh and great too. I love how silly the product placements are, I like how weird and awkward the immunity island gimmick is. But most of all, I love watching how South Africans play survivor because my gxd is there a difference in culture when compared to the Americans. I mean, episode 1 literally has players casually burying food and nobody talks about why they are and there is zero edit focus on it. Its just part of the... I guess a good way to keep the food fresh? Maybe they are hiding it from other players? Who knows! On to the reward, a bowl of homemade lasagna and some fizzy drink get ready to lose your minds! Seconding this. SA season 8 is fun front to back and is VERY different from US survivor in a good way.

Deshawn really is confessional gold. Dude is so likeable. I feel bad for JD because he was obviously passionate but to echo everyone else, he was so so very bad at the game. I really can't put my finger on one correct move he made (that wasn't dumb luck w him getting the extra vote).

Pretty slow/boring episode IMO but by far the best part to me was seeing how happy Naseer was that Danny wanted to work with him. Since they haven't had to make any hard decisions yet I think the blue tribe hasn't really formed those tight bonds yet and him having such joy over the cool big strong guy wanting to be his friend kinda melted my cold dead heart. Also his part about his daughter was great. poo poo, I'm becoming the target audience for the sappy crying segments aren't I?

The thing about the hourglass twist is that she would be a fool to not smash it. Smash it, you're immune and yeah your old tribe people are mad at you (assuming she doesn't already know they're targeting her) but you can explain to them that..... If you don't smash it, you're vulnerable with a group of people you've just told that you DIDNT save, when you could have, so of course they're all just gonna up and vote you out. It's a non-decision. It's like, go home or don't go home. Easy.

Shan is so bad at social politicking it's making me realize that the eliminated Ua tribe people were all colossal idiots to let her run over them like that. The fact that yet another 2 tribals have gone by with ZERO idols played blows my mind. At least they did have the initiative to flush one (as sad as I am to see Naseer go) but Shan being able to coast with her advantages shows me how stupid people are. Her insistence on the votes going her way is so grating. I know everyone's tensions are super high due to the complete lack of food but having inter-alliance flexibility is a hallmark of nearly every winner...I don't know how a fan wouldn't know that.

I think Xanders game is weird because he's had an odd survivor journey. He started by finding an unprecedented advantage immediately that stole his vote until the rest of the game caught up to him. Then his tribe imploded and he had no agency (by no fault of his own) in any of those votes. He still survived though, to his credit. Then once tribes shuffled/merged he finally got the ability to vote but the 2 random tribe splits dumped him on the outside of the power alliance that was established from a pre merge tribe he literally couldn't interact with. Admittedly one time he purposefully put himself out of the group but to be honest with his yellow tribe folks being on the outside, it was IMO a good choice since it gave him potential allies and potential for an advantage that he sadly didn't find. His fakeout on Liana was a masterstroke, period, and while he missed a weird opportunity to force Danny and Deshawns hands with his extra vote this past week, that was a pretty sharp strategic move that I can forgive a starving guy for not coming up with, particularly while he's immune and his immediate life isn't in danger. He's been forced to play from behind the whole game due to his finding of an advantage he couldn't have known would have THAT downside, and being lottoed onto a lovely team that lost a lot so he couldn't be in the huge alliance. That's forced him to have to win, which makes him a threat, however he has no other choice. I promise Im not Xanders mom or anything, I just think he's done well so far with the hand he's dealt.

blue squares posted:I’m gonna get paramount plus and watch some Australian survivor. Of the seasons available, which should I start with? Keep in mind I am skeptical about the length so I want to watch one that convinces me that it’s worth all that time, so recommend the best rather than just saying to start with the earliest and watch them all Both champs vs contenders ones are very good, and all stars is imo the best season of survivor ever made. The most recent one is very very good too. With the exception of the first "new" Aus season, you kinda can't go wrong tbh

Also, I don't get the Xander hate. He HAS been someone who has exhibited qualities of an ally, and why should he not give his best effort to win? He hasn't had any racially motivated votes, and he may be voting off POC because they are a threat to beat him in the end, irrespective of their race. Now I could understand Heather hate since when she was called upon she acted like she was ignorant to the plight of the black community in recent years which is absurd. I feel like I'm doing a lot of Xander backing ITT, despite actually rooting for Deshawn and Danny the whole way, but I definitely feel like he gets too much hate, and seems like a good kid.

I dunno it's the exact case of the prisoners dilemma, which has already been heavily featured for them this season so I can understand the fear or agreeing to that and just getting axed by your partner.

Finally got caught up on this thread after having to delay my finale watch due to real life and wow I never thought people here would care about ratings. I'd watch survivor if they put it out on dailymotion, and I thought the season was good and had a deserving winner. She killed it at final tribal, while the other two poo poo the bed. Under-edited early, yes, but if they showed a bunch of Erika content while they were never having a vote, it would be obvious they were setting her up for a win, so they have to show where the action is. Also Russell Hantz is a fat chode so don't listen to anything that moron says. Sorry they're spoiling your precious game with such evils as more than one black person or *gasp* a gay person [/sarcasm] After show was fine I thought too. You guys forget, the normal after shows include bullshit segments about asking kids things or fellating Cochran so this is a welcome reprieve imo, despite Jeff's insane champagne and pizza combination. Finale good. Show good. Can't wait for S42.
