It's that time of year, the Observer Hall of fame voting season! The Observer hall is set up very much like the major North American sports halls of fame in that you need 60% of the votes in your region to enter, and while this does have issues at time (see the log jam of Lucha candidates) it means that it's more of a leigt hall of fame than the WWE which is very much just up to Vince. Also with it's Lucha and Japan sections it's much better at being a global hall of fame than US based halls tend to be.

The Criteria according to the Observer hall is based on in-ring work, Box office drawing power and positive historical influence. Voters can vote in 10 wrestlers and 5 non wrestlers and entry is broken down by regions. This years ballot as taken from twitter user https://twitter.com/wonhoftracker?lang=en

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1brVme_4t152uVLjD1zIuqJqu4cQCyef3N9-HIj28Z6w/edit#gid=2103376432

Big questions on this years ballot is how far Edge will go down after another disastrous year, how far will CM Punk rise, will Moxley get in on first ballot, will Okada top 90% on the first ballot even with an off (for Okada) couple of years, will Taue finally get in, does Ishii get in on work rate alone, and how will Orndorff returning to the ballot do with his death reminding people just how well he drew in his prime.

Of the new additions we have a rather... eclectic mix.

Kazuchika Okada
Jon Moxley
Octagon (who up until this moment didn't realise had not been on the ballot, I was shocked we wasn't in already)
Psycho Clown
Shingo Takagi
Bill Dundee
The original Hollywood Blondes (I don't know anything about)
Seth Rollins
Dorell Dixon
AAA La Parka

and Nikki Bella.

Okada is a lock and I think Moxley is too. Shingo probably should be as somebody from Dragonsgate needs to go in and people like Shingo (Unlike CIMA who has quite a few that hate him). Psuycho Clown probably will go in but Lucha still has a back log. LOL Seth Rollins

Nikki Bella is worth having a discussion as she did move the needle for WWE's woman's audience and while I don't think she gets in she's worth being on the ballot

I'd rather Moxley not go in yet, maybe I'm just still tainted by the Dean Ambrose and a fear of recency bias but I'd like him to be in AEW for more than two years and say Hall of Fame career.

Okada is the lockest lock to ever lock and has been for five years already.

Shingo should go in because he had a debatable Hall of Fame career before he even got to NJPW and since he got there hes been in the top three workers in the company when he isn't straight up #1 which is insane when you think of how deep NJPW was when he got there.

Rollins chances died in the red light and in the red cage and I don't think nothing can save them.

I'm super interested to see how much Orton and Edge go down this year, especially since Dave has turned on Orton for the hall

The Orton turn was so long overdue and it's the same arguments people here have been saying against Orton for years, but it was still awesome to hear it dawn on him that Ishii had had 30 better matches in the past year than Orton had had in his entire career.

He's definitely not a lock. He had three pretty strong years before the pandemic but wasn't even the #1 guy in the country in two of those years. Prior to that AAA was just an utter mess. We'll see how AAA rebuilds after the pandemic but I don't think he'd be in my top 5 for the Mexico ballot let alone making my ballot with some of the new candidates elsewhere.

I guess I'd go

Brazos
Mistico
Okada
CIMA
Naito
Ishii

And then would have to figure out how to divide up the final 4 spots between Meiko Satomura, Punk, Morgan, Moxley, Ibushi and maybe the Hardys.

Plus Dave Brown and maybe Crockett Jr in non wrestlers.

Also I think Dave has spoken in the past that people like Okada don't get 100% of the vote because people go "well, everyone's going to vote for Okada so I don't need to."

But he has to go in.

Dave should have sent out the ballots with Okada pre-selected, and anybody who sends one back with him crossed out gets removed from the voting pool. It might sound undemocratic but some crimes must be punished.

Nikki Bella (new to ballot)

No notable listings

Bella easily has the worst résumé in terms of WON voting of anyone on the ballot, having no notable finishes in positive WON awards. She’s on here primarily because of the impact Total Divas & Total Bellas had on Raw viewership, which would really only have possibly been accounted for in Best Box Office Draw.

Here's the full ballot, which voters have until December 2 to return. Voters can vote for up to ten wrestlers and five non-wrestlers. Voters don't have to vote in all categories. They only count towards the denominator in categories they do vote in. Induction requires at least 60% of the vote from people participating in that category.

Tully and Arn almost deserve to be voted on separately at this point, although they're both benefiting from the AEW renaissance so it probably won't hurt them to be linked. I'd say the same thing in general about the Hardys -- Matt's had the more interesting and Hall-worthy career at this point.
