Wondered what Tom Herman is up to (special projects coach--whatever that means--for the Bears). But I do like how wiki subtly throws shade in their articles. quote:After building one of the nation's most prolific offenses at Rice, Herman joined Iowa State as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.[2][5] Herman installed his system and brought new life into the offense.[citation needed] And that is needed after looking things up, after Gene Chizik Herman really did kick rear end at Rice though. e: as an aside Chizik getting hired at Auburn after going 2-10 at Iowa State in his last year is still the weirdest loving thing. I would watch a documentary on how stupid everything was, then it actually working out with Gus Malzahn (and/or mostly Cam) doing the heavy lifting, then everything falling apart again. Tulane falling apart late in a game is starting to become a theme. 3 times this year (OU, Houston, East Carolina), they've hung around and kept competitive with a superior opponent and then just fell to pieces late.

Ohio State drew the easiest schedule in the conference. They don't play anyone from the conference with a heartbeat until they play Penn State at home October 30. I'm still not convinced their defense is any good. If they give up a lot of points to Maryland, I'll be cautiously optimistic about Penn State's chances. None of the teams in the conference are world beaters this year. Each one has a gaping flaw. Komet fucked around with this message at 16:13 on Oct 8, 2021 |

I’m not saying there is no chance for Auburn to beat UGA this week. It is at Auburn, it’s an odd year, and Jordan Hare is haunted. But there is a very vocal contingent of Auburn fans who swear they are going to boat race UGA and that our defense is actually very bad and Bo Nix is a great enough quarterback to overcome it. It’ll be interesting to see how that plays out but I have a feeling that Nix isn’t going to have a great night, no matter what the outcome.

I still think Butch can be a solid hire for Arkansas State but yeah they suck really bad this year, especially on D and CCU has been lighting up everyone. ASU was not very good last year either, their coaching situation has understandably been fairly unstable with Blake Anderson's wife battling health issues and forcing him to take a lot of time away from the team his last few seasons there. Tulane being so bad is more surprising to me, I've always been a little more cool on the Willie Fritz hype that the college media seemed to be but I figured they'd at least be a bowl team again and that's gonna be tough to do now

Just to be clear I was joking about Bo Nix. it would take the game of his life to make that Georgia defense look bad and from what I have seen he doesn't have the passing accuracy to make that happen.

Yeah that’s my point. There is always a way for any team to lose any game, but the bravado that they have about how they will just dominate our defense from start to finish is wild. On the other hand, I really hope we can give them a taste of 2017 against Tennessee just to get rid of any illusions of grandeur on behalf of Auburn Of course by wishing this I know that means that UGA is going to lose in an embarrassing way.

I think a lot of their success they had against Oklahoma was just Oklahoma being bad in Week 1 as usual. Otherwise their defense has been bad - almost 500 yards allowed a game against non-Oklahoma opponents and they've been terrible about turnovers which has cost them what on paper should have been wins over UAB and ECU. But it was always going to be rough to get them to 6 wins. Even with 5 winnable games they still had to beat one of Houston, SMU, Cincinnati, UCF, and Memphis.

drunk leprechaun posted:Both Rocky Top and Boomer Sooner are garbage and the bands need to find other poo poo to play. No. Come back when your band played a song so hard that it won a football game. On October 15, 1983, the University of Oklahoma football team visited Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The Sooner squad played poorly at first, and within 10 minutes Oklahoma State was winning by a score of 20-3. A policeman escorted Gene Thrailkill, the Oklahoma band director, off the field for not having a sideline pass. Before he was forced to leave, Thrailkill shouted to the band members, "I want you to start playing and don't stop 'til the team's ahead!" The band complied and played "Boomer Sooner" non-stop roughly 300 times. The team responded by scoring 15 unanswered points against Oklahoma State. After an OSU fumble with 1:17 left in the game, Oklahoma scored a field goal to win 21-20. OU coach Barry Switzer awarded the game ball to the band (known as "The Pride of Oklahoma") for the non-stop effort and labeled it "The Day The Pride Won".
