Goons show me your board games. I wanna see dem shelves. (56k Get Dunked On, cause imma post some full size shots) I've gotten BIG into board gaming primarily due to the pandemic, and my collection has grown fairly rapidly. Imma break em down row by row for you! Anything catches your eye head over to https://boardgamegeek.com/ for a better run down. Up Top - Iron Clays (See below!) - Cards Against Humanity: The Bigger Blacker Box (Contains pretty 90% of everything they've put out. A lot of the super gross poo poo have been ripped up) - Don't Get Got - Shut Up and Sit Down Edition (The orange box) - Way too much Lego! Top Row Box 1 - These games get a LOT of play - New York Zoo - Fury of Dracula 4th Edition - Whitehall Mystery - Steampunk Rally Fusion Atomic Edition - A War of Whispers Collectors Edition Box 2 - Ditto! - Hansa Teutonica Big Box - Lorenzo il Magnifico - A Feast for Odin /w Norwegians Expansion Box 3 - War/Strategy oritentated - Twilight Struggle 7th Edition - Akrham Horro LCG Base Box - Root - Dune - Railroad Ink: Blazing Red Edition (On top of Dune) - Gladius - Fort - Small World of Warcraft - Twilight Imperium 4th Edition - Xia: Legends of a Drift Systen Middle Row Box 1 - All around solid games I will always say yes to playing - Chinatown - Pandemic - Azul - Calico - Fugitive (On top of Azul) - 7 Wonders 1st Edition Box 2 - Card games galore! - Something Different (Up top) - Tournament at Camelots - Avalon - One Night Ultimate Super Villains - Uno Flip! - F*CK The Card Game - Hanabi - Cockroach Poker - 6 Nimmt - Skull Box 3 Lighter simpler + party orientated games - Dungeon Mayhem - Poetry for Neanderthals - Throw Throw Burrito - Just One - Decrypto - Codenames - Pandemic: Hot Zone - North America - Ticket to Ride: New York Box 4 - Oldies, but Goodies - The Quest for El Dorado - Ticket to Ride - Carcassone - Catan Bottom Row Box 1 - New poo poo! - The Castles of Burgundy: 2019 Edition - Royal Visit - Micro City (This is old!) - Tiny Epic Pirates /w Curse of Amdiak expansion - Cartographers Collectors Edition - Quest: Avalon Big Box Edition Box 2 - Also new! - Scotland Yard - Draftosaurus - Mini Express - The Mind - The Crew: The Quest for Planet Nine - The Quacks of Quedlinburg Box 3 - Junk/Throw Away - PNP version of Secret Hitler in the CAH box - What do you Meme? Aussie Edition (Well meaning relative got it, but it's got some gross stuff it it) - Empty Cartographers box (Collectors Edition has both versions of the game in it now + all the mini expansions) Box 4 - Misc - Radlands Deluxe Edition (New but I need to rearrange shelfs) - Who Will Buzz First? (A pretty bland trivia game I was gifted. Has buzzers which are super fun for other games) - Sheriff of Nottingham 1st Edition (I don't like it and am probably selling) ---------------------------- Next I have my Crokinole board with a Coke Can as a size reference, as this is a proper tournament sized version. It's a essentially a dexterity game where you try and get little wooden pucks in the middle. Have a google for the Shut Up & Sit Down video for an overview. It's great, I love my board, I wish I had more opportunities to get it out. My board unfortunately lives in a box for the most part, as I don't have a nice clean wall somewhere to hang it. ---------------------------- Next I have some Iron Clays poker chips. They are made up of clay with an iron core, and they were purchased as a counter replacement for my games. Comes in a lovely cigar-esque type magnetic box. I love them. They feel SUPER nice in your fingers and have a great 'heft' to them in your hand. The more poker orientated of my players tell me how much they wish they could steal my set. ---------------------------- This last ones just for me, more than my table. I'm getting back into Tabletop gaming, and while I am absolutely going to have this at the table for my players to roll on, I bought myself a Personal Dice Tray from Wyrmwood Gaming recently. They do SUPER nice woodworking, but they are on the more expensive end of things. My dice tray is from a promo they ran on the Classic Adventuring Party from D&D, and I bought a Thief themed tray. It is made up of a core of Padauk, with Ebony and Maple veneers, with Wenge accents on the top and bottom. It's lined with buffalo leather and it's just suppppper nice to roll in. The scuffing from the dice is natural and expected, and the leather can be made fresh with some leather conditioner. Better the tray than your table! I also got some Obsidian Stone Dice to go along with them. It was 100% a splurge on myself, but they're lovely lovely dice that the photos don't do justice.

Anyone who's into board games eventually becomes a collector. Or as one of my friends puts it, a board game hoarder, which is a thing. Realize which games you'll never play again and sell/pay them forward. I loved shadows over camelot, but there's no way I'll ever have someone to play it with again.

I usually play it with someone watching to have someone to talk to and enjoy along with all the different personas of nemo you can pick when starting go a long way to shift what goals and strategies you're doing and improve replayability, which I really enjoy

1 in 1 out after a certain number is the best system for most people that don't have both a ton of space and disposable income. ~75 games is way more than I'll ever need but still a reasonable amount, and I really enjoy trading and hunting for out of print stuff on BGG. In normal years with conventions I tend to churn about 25% of my collection through the math trades.

Another pandemic-caused board game enthusiast here. 99% of gaming has been 2p with my SO, so there's a clear bias there. I am one of ~20 people who run the convention Geekway to the West. We have our own library of games that we store at Miniature Market's Manchester retail store when we're not hosting the convention. We have over 2,000 games. The library is usually stored in a small closet with enough room for maybe 2 people to browse at the same time. I took this picture after the library was setup at the convention center. It's amazing seeing it all spread out in all it's glory.

I remember small time game makers putting out unusual board games in the 70s-early 80s that were leaning more from the sci-fi and D&D side of things that were inexpensive and fun. Cosmic Wimpout and Snit's Revenge come to mind. Does anyone here collect those type of board games?

From what I can tell it's a war game, but you can also marry Maid Marion and do an archery contest; I'm hoping to read the rules and play a game or two in the next week. I also recently started a YouTube channel where I'm trying to do overviews of lesser-known or unique games! (very intentionally adding "lesser known" because getting a hold of some of these "weird oddities" can be expensive)

Cosmic Wimpout and Snit's Revenge come to mind. Does anyone here collect those type of board games? I’ve been buying dungeon crawlers from the 90s for about a year now. I’m mostly interested in playing them or the box art. I’ll probably start moving into the earlier TSR releases and the like once I’ve got what I’m currently looking for but the problem is I usually want to play the games and these early games are kinda terrible with really cheap components even if the art is great. Snits Revenge looks fantastic but it’s not high on my list since I’m kinda singularly focused on dungeon crawlers right now. The early Ral Partha rpg miniatures are incredible and dirt cheap so I’ve been accumulating those lately as well. That said, on the contemporary range of things, I’m looking for reasonable copies of Dungeon Universalis and Darklight Memento Mori if anyone wants to unload their kickstarter trash on me. Dungeon Universalis esp, looks to have been designed by some insane people.

Magnetic North posted:Is Insider Black worth getting if you love the poo poo out of Insider? I first thought it was a Cards Against Humanity version like Codenames Deep Undercover, but that seems to not be the case? it's basically the same as the original. the main thing is that it adds topics that are more complicated than the original and adds the following optional rules: - a follower role for groups of 6+ that is a common who knows who the insider is but not the topic, and can use that knowledge to intuit info from the insider's questions - a tweak to the rules where if the correct answer-er is a common but the majority thinks they're the insider, then both that common and the insider win - this is probably meant to accommodate the new follower role - question cards that prohibit certain types of questions from being asked - a team play dynamic for 7-11 players that combines with the original insider to have two teams of players pitted against each other It's fun but not necessary - basically if you liked the original and wanted to add more complexity to it or accommodate larger groups. For those not familiar Insider is a party game that is basically 20 questions with a hidden traitor mechanic. It's a pretty entertaining and easy to teach thing to pull out for big parties Buck Wildman fucked around with this message at 22:11 on Oct 16, 2021 |
