I've never travelled first class. Hell, only times I've used the sleeper train I didn't even have a bed, was in the seating area. When I win the lottery I'm deffo going to go on some transcontinental flight in first class. Don't even really care where. Maybe Tokyo but also maybe somewhere where I can just sit on the beach (in some shade obviously) & catch up on some reading. Mostly I just like the idea of turning up for a flight that cost £7k in sweatpants & a ratty old hoodie.

ThomasPaine posted:Yeah, but iirc the bonuses are time-limited, so if you really want to get enough miles to realistically be able to afford a first class flight with them (and a long-haul one worth the time) you have to be spending at least something like 1.5k/month on the card for a few years. So it's doable if you're already pretty well off (or I guess on London salary/expenses) but not really doable for a lot of people, me included. At least that's what I remember but it was a few years ago I was looking into it. And this is why I watch the YouTube videos rather than try to replicate the lifestyle, it seems far too much effort never mind the cost.

I'd have regarded "novelty" as something new & possibly unusual & I don't think that's really applicable to a form of entertainment that's been around longer than I've been alive. I'd not say they are all disposable because that would be unfair but also a lot of VR games seem more like "experiences" & "showcases for the technology" or "proof of concepts" rather than something you can sink hours into. Something like Job Simulator seems very fun to whip out at a party & go "check this out" but once you rattle around in it for half an hour is there much more to get from it? Meanwhile, sure I'll play another few hundred hours of this loving Paradox game because I'm a mug.

The best music happens all the time between I dunno, 1910 & now?
