Kavros posted:I think the texas abortion ban might have been designed intentionally to send to the supreme court, based on a strategy of purposefully including extremely horrible parts as sacrificial buffers. The point is to slather up the chuds for the midterm - they're getting pretty close to achieving their objective of locking the dems out for good, or they think they are, if they're trying this strategy and cashing a valuable chip like Roe, even in a conservative fashion. They can go hog wild in 3 years. Yeah, gently caress off Rule of Law! The Law SHOULD change to suit the individual, countries SHOULD be ruled by strength not committee, and we SHOULD all have the ability to fight our own wars! NANOMACHINES, SON! The rule of law cannot be a suicide pact.

ex post facho posted:Yeah, they showed that they can be safely ignored. They sacrificed all their leverage after months of insisting they'd only vote on the bills in tandem. Unironically, with the games the repubs have played with voting, this act of impotence has a very good chance of ending the dems as a meaningful political entity.

VH4Ever posted:I don't post anymore. I banned myself from this place. But I wanted to emerge from the shadow realm to say I'm just....still amazed at the CPC and its weakness and stupidity last night (I know, not all of them were in favor of caving but I'm speaking generally). It was clear to everyone what would happen if the bipartisan bill got voted on first and they let it happen anyway and didn't even get a handful of magic beans back for it. This is all Manchin wanted so whatever thin shred of leverage anyone had over him is history. Kiss BBB and all the actually good things that may have even remained in it goodbye, it's historical dust consigned to the land of Never Was. And in '22 and '24 the Democrats will get rolled hard (no voting rights bill anywhere on the horizon!) and they'll deserve it. And that's basically it, CHUD minority majority rule forever. So I hope y'all are all white, straight, Protestant, cisgender and male, because if not, poo poo's gonna get real tough for you from basically here on in this country. With the spike in fertilizer prices in the tube... we are likely heading for an abyss.

F_Shit_Fitzgerald posted:My gut reaction after looking at that polling is to go big. Pass the biggest, most expansive infrastructure bill you can possibly manage (pretend for a moment that ""moderates"" like Manchin and Sinema don't exist), don't give a single gently caress about "expanding government". The programs fall into place, people's lives get better. Suddenly, voters don't give so much of a poo poo about "expanding the role of the government" when it is demonstrated that - surprise, surprise! - the government can work for the people instead of against them. This is the only play they have, and they are completely psychologically incapable of it.
