Wow nintendo sucks at emulators then because hackers managed to port over tons of emulators to the Switch quite easily. You don't need to port every single game, once you get the emulator running they all work. Especially simple systems like the NES:

You don’t port games individually but lots of the publisher funded “ports” definitely do put a bit more effort than slapping it into the emulator

Xbox has a backwards compatibility team actively working on stuff

Sea of Stars- JRPG throwback by Messenger people. Looks very good and the music is clearly good. Somehow a prequel. Holiday 2022

Aliisha 3D puzzle platformer? Looks fine. Motion controls and touch screen. It's been a while we've seen that I think. Probably won't bother. Spring 2022

Loco Motive Point and click adventure. Looks cute and quirky if you like the genre. Murder mystery on a train. Summer 2022

After Love EP Slice of life game? Looks like a visual novel with mini games. The voice acting is grating. Summer 2022

Dungeon Munchies Rogue lite with cooking and tons of items/crafting? Looks gimmicky.

Figment 2: Creed Valley Well the music does nothing for me. Some sort of puzzle adventure where the music is rather present. Free demo.

Let's play Oink Games Multi board game pack. So... Jackinbox or the other board game collection? They seem to be well-known? Available now.

Endling Shelter but with a fox and not a badger or lynx. Like I like the concept but I think I'll be ok. Seems too sad. Can't save a species with 3 siblings though. They're hosed either way!

OlliOlliWorld 2D Skateboarding.

River City Girls 2 Beat 'em Up. Looks smooth. I suppose they would've addressed critiques?

Parkasaurus Dino park Tycoon ! but revamped

Dont Starve Together out on PC. Now on Switch

Chicory: A colorful tale You paint. Looks cute.

Baby Storm A party game? I see no babies

Grime 2D action game. I get Dead Cell Vibes.

Gerda: A flame in Winter: some sort of adventure game.

Timelie: Out today, puzzle platformer. There's a lot of those huh.

Behind the Frame: A visual novel? Life game? You paint?

One more thing:

Omori Spring 2022. I've had my eye on this. A student of mine kept talking to me about it.

For all the "Worst Direct Ever" this one was a bit anticlimatic. I'm happy about Omori, since I've heard about it, but is it really that big of a deal?

I like most kinds of game to some degree, although I'm not a huge JRPG fan. I'm thinking of getting a Pokemon, though. I'm balking a little at paying full price for it, but I gather that's just how it is with first-party Nintendo games. Which Pokemon is the best one to get right now? How important is the DLC?

Are there any MMOs on this thing? I want something that will devour time and distract my from the pain of existence.

There's a ton of indie stuff on sale right now but most of it is stuff I have on Steam already. I guess I'm looking for switch-only stuff that I wouldn't think to get, like obviously you get the Zeldas and the Pokemons and the Marios.

Diablo 3 isn’t an MMO but is an excellent time waster grinding game. Had it on PC and played waaaaay more on switch because it was so easy to.

Monster Hunter rise too if you’re into that (comes to PC eventually). If you’re not into it this game is imo the best entry point into the series

Imagine persona 5 but the entire game is only the dungeons and combat. It’s really good combat, and the combat focus means it’s a bit deeper than persona (you fuse your entire party, not just the main character’s persona) but if you’re not ready for basically 40 hours of dungeons with not much talking in between be prepared

Well, I just put a few hours into Monster Hunter Rise, and it feels totally impenetrable and unfun so far.

The combat feels unbelievably clunky and bad. I tried out a few different weapons and the attack animations are all so slow and stiff. Plus maybe this is just me being an idiot, but I couldn't figure out how to lock on to an enemy, and most of my attacks just whiff as my cat and dog do all the work.

I had heard that this series was tough to get into and that Rise was the most newbie friendly. I shudder to think what the earlier entries must be like! Rise has some of the worst tutorializing I have ever seen. Just dumps and dumps of text on the screen whenever you do anything or talk to anyone, and a very unpleasant to navigate UI.

Maybe I'm just not in the right mindset to get into this right now, but the first few hours of experience was completely off-putting.

It really is one of the more approachable ones yes - which weapon did you try? If you hate the combat you hate the combat, but imo the weapons control differently enough that you might have just not found the one that clicks with you yet. I still have weapons I absolutely hate and cannot get into but when a new weapon clicks it's a really cool feeling

That said I have like 200 hours in the game and even then if I pick up a new weapon I have to check youtube first. It is not a super easy game to pick up, but the early quests are easy enough that you have the space to safely learn how to play without knowing 100% how everything works.

Also imo the Hammer is one of the easiest weapons to figure out how to play and do well with. Hold R, run around until it's charged, let go, knock a monster out

Also I underestimated how lovely old screens were. Even at the same resolution a 3 in vs 7 in screen is a huge difference, then OLED with the colors and brightness, then the ability to dock if you want. Switch is a great handheld and as I get into the PS5/Series X gen of games it's becoming more and more of a handheld to me.

Sorry if I'm just constantly asking about games itt but I've been unemployed for almost a year since I got a switch so I'm diving into a lot of nintendo titles I couldn't afford before I had a job, is smash any good for online play or is the netcode a bit janky? I liked N64 smash and never played gamecube smash and I'd like to get it but I only have a lite for now. Even if I buy a big boy switch I doubt many of my mates are smash types.

There is very noticeable lag playing smash online to the point imo it’s not even the same game. Especially these days with games like guilty gear getting rollback net code and other games being patched to get it too. I would go as far as to say if you’re only gonna play online do not get smash
