there is a large segment of conservatives who see themselves as the party of "decency" as defined by a superficial reading of mid-20th century middle american protestant values in such a way that swearing in public is a worse crime than actually harming someone these were not the same people yelling "gently caress your feelings" at trump rallies, they are the type of conservatives who found trump distasteful but gritted their teeth and voted for him anyway because they have been trained to see the other party as atheist "socialists"*, which is a process that occurred over decades due to the work of think tanks and media manipulation, and isn't tied to any one specific electoral cycle *not the socialism of marx but rather the invading armies of red dawn Earwicker fucked around with this message at 23:00 on Dec 16, 2021 |

Which doesn't work because there never was a conspiracy to cover up the "gently caress Joe Biden" chant to begin with. Edit: Good point. Also liberals don't reflexively cover for Biden, he's not the Trump of the left or anything so again it doesn't work. Rebel Blob fucked around with this message at 23:10 on Dec 16, 2021 |

I hate to be the one to break it to you but prisons are overwhelmingly filled with minorities, due to a wide variety of reasons ranging from outright incentives to target and put them there, to plain old systemic racism built into the fundamental core of the country. Prison is one of the many tools that has been wielded specifically to disenfranchise "certain demographics", because america is a hellcountry that incentivizes jailing and stripping voting rights off people who wouldn't vote for you. Minorities in america tend not to vote republican that much overall, aside from weird little demographic pockets, like the cuban republicans.

We got that. We got an old dude who doesn't scream at everyone. I'll take 100 more Bidens any day of the week. Most of this country has ptsd from Trump still.

And so often the conversation around felony disenfranchisement is framed as a partisan issue. And so conservative media and Republicans often say, oh, this will definitely support the Democrats. But we found that that doesn't seem to be the case. You know, people are - identified as Democrats, people identified as Republicans and, again, as independents. And so folks in prison are not a monolith by any means. So if we assume white = conservative in KY, https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...C9C9b5FBUmFm6Au 76% of the prison population in KY is white! Nevermind that they're overwhelmingly poor and opiod-addicted! Death penalty's back on the table, boys!

He had quite a few supporters. He was in a weird place as he and Reagan were primary opponents in Reagan’s first campaign and he was brought on as VP to bring the more moderate Republicans on board with Reagan. During the primary he was correctly calling Reagan’s trickle down garbage “voodoo economics” and Bush and Reagan didn’t work well together or trust each other much for several years. When Bush ended up being a one-term President it basically sealed the Republicans behind Reagan’s vision and killed the moderate (and liberal) factions in the GOP and helped us get where we are now. I kind of wish Bush had beaten Clinton. Reagan’s vision weakened, no Hillary running in 2016, and no Benghazi or email ‘scandals’. It sounds kind of nice.
