The thing I love about the Dakar trucks is they used to be MORE mental until they got tamed down by the rule book. Things like twin 1000hp engines, massive suspension setups. They were legit faster than the cars in a straight line- I can remember seeing footage of a Dakar truck just monstering in and passing the lead car across a clay pan like it wasn’t even moving.

At my last job we received a couple of 4x4 MAN trucks just as the Dakar started as fire trucks. Pre season training included a discussion from management that if ANYONE was caught doing anything even slightly Dakar in our new trucks they’d be fired on the spot!
