An R0 of 10?? Wouldn't that mean 8 billion people infected after ~10 days? Lol

I admit I should say "has been theorised to have an R0 up to" as reported in the Lancet: https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanres/article/PIIS2213-2600(21)00559-2/fulltext

quote:

The original strain of SARS-CoV-2 has an R0 of 2·5, while the delta variant (B.1.617.2) has an R0 of just under 7. Martin Hibberd, professor of emerging infectious diseases at London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (London, UK), reckons omicron's R0 could be as high as 10. In the UK, cases of omicron are doubling every 2–3 days, which puts it on track to supplant delta as the dominant variant in the country by mid-December.

So it might not quite be that high, but even revised down is still much more transmissible than a common cold. For reference, Chickenpox has an R0 of 10-12. Measles is 18.

Yeah there's valid reasons for vaccine hesitancy. There's no valid reason for mask hesitancy.

If you cannot wear a mask and you don't want a vaccine, then it's incumbent on you to not go partying in Whitby with three idiots.

I don't think there are legitimate reasons for not getting vaccinated when billions of other people have and are fine, actually.

One example is a guy I spoke to who is chronically ill and can barely function as is and worries the vaccine will put them completely out of commission. He takes every other precaution possible and knows that he will get the vaccine he just needs to get to one of his "better periods" so if he gets side-effects he can take it.

Tesseraction
Apr 5, 2009

It's a medical reason for hesitancy, but it's not a medical exemption.

People who don't want the vaccine because they're scared about the 5G spamming them with throbbing cock porn can certainly do one, of course. Although again the fault lies mainly in those who persuaded them the vaccine does that.

Apparently Raynor did pretty well at PMQs yesterday in for Starmer. One funny tidbit is that when Ed Davey (the leader of the Lib Dems, for those who don't pay attention to inconsequential joke parties) was called to speak, Hoyle called him "Ed Balls" instead before correcting himself.

Also, died after receiving that vaccine does not mean died because of the vaccine, and it's very disingenuous and extremely dangerous to say "died from the vaccines."

And please for the love of mercy do not say this is saying "died WITH covid, not OF covid" for the vaccines.

Reported to VAERS specifically means died where the vaccine was suspected as the cause, significantly more than 10000 people died in the US in a year.

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/safety/adverse-events.html

quote:

Reports of death after COVID-19 vaccination are rare. FDA requires healthcare providers to report any death after COVID-19 vaccination to VAERS, even if it’s unclear whether the vaccine was the cause. Reports of adverse events to VAERS following vaccination, including deaths, do not necessarily mean that a vaccine caused a health problem.

Again, 2.9 million people died in the US that year, it's not just "anyone who got the vaccine and died".

It also doesn't mean it was proven and even less so the only cause (the website lists only 9 cases where otherwise healthy people died of it, mostly due to blood clots).

Listen, I am pushing back on you here because you are specifically pushing anti-vaccine propaganda that the CDC has in any way made a claim that those were deaths due to the vaccine. Anyone who dies after receiving a vaccine must be logged in VAERS, which is not a verification site. The CDC has, at every opportunity to declare a causal link, refused to do so.

In this article https://eu.usatoday.com/story/news/factcheck/2021/06/28/fact-check-covid-19-vaers-death-reports-not-verified/7587577002/ , for instance, people like yourself are specifically called out:

quote:

“Statements that imply that deaths following vaccination equate to deaths caused by vaccination are scientifically inaccurate, misleading, and irresponsible,” Dr. Tom Shimabukuro, deputy director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Immunization Safety Office, told USA TODAY in an email.

Stop pushing a lie. These lies kill people.

Clearly it's not everyone - if 2.9 million people died and most people received the vaccine, then the number would also be a lot higher.

Where is that from? But I suppose that explains it, sorry.

Annoyingly they've not put it down in writing but if you go here

https://www.cdc.gov/vaccinesafety/hcproviders/reportingadverseevents.html

What to Report After Any Vaccination

Healthcare providers are required by law to report to VAERS:

* Any adverse event listed in the VAERS Table of Reportable Events Following Vaccination pdf icon[PDF – 5 pages]external icon that occurs within the specified time period after vaccination
* Any adverse event listed by the vaccine manufacturer as a contraindication to further doses of the vaccine

you'll see from the PDF that all other vaccines have a 7 day window to report death from a vaccine. Longer window for other side-effects.
