EM is my favorite pact, I think it makes every boss fight more fun (although I have yet to beat EM4). The only one that gets pretty hard is Tisiphone due to lack of space, I lost a death defiance to her last night and was aghast.

It's one of those games where each boss fight is a wall, and as soon as you figure it out it becomes way easier. Weird how that happens but it's true.

Think I'll try EM4 again next playthrough. The bow has always been my favorite weapon, and the Aspect of Chiron does such insane damage in the right build. Just a matter of staying alive long enough.

EM4 is rough, I don't think I've beaten that yet either. might have to give it a shot again soon.

EM3 is loving hilarious.

I can’t get past the bone hydra. I also bleed health overdashing into lava Asphodel. The tight quarters on the hell barge really do a number too.

I’ve gotten pretty good at smiting all three furies so far, but I’ve only done it multiple times w spear, shield and bow. Can’t get the hang of the rail gun and the gloves and sword are too close-quarters for me to maintain health into the boss fight.

The others have chimed in with good advice but the one thing I wanted to add is about mentality and about approaching runs

early on, I leaned on having the gifts from Skelly (a free death defiance) and Cerberus (additional life from the jump). But what I realized is the gifts from the other gods you get boons from basically start you down the path towards speccing for them. So if you want to do an Athena-build run, start with her gift, you're guaranteed for her boon in that first room, and while it's not a guarantee you'll get more, it's pretty common to continue seeing that god pop up in other rooms as well.

it may seem like a real steep exchange, but it helped me get more into the boon-based builds and fleshing out characters that can hand out a ton of damage. maybe it's also super-obvious to others but was lost on me for a bit!

the other recommendation is to swap weapons for different runs to whichever is giving the additional darkness boost, every little bit helps.

last advice: Rail gun. Lightning boons.

You can change your boon after you kill a boss too, so even if you need a death defiance to get past the minotaur and theseus or dad you can always spec for the god you want and then switch back to skelly's boon after you clear the hydra.

Only if you buy the thing from the construction desk next to Hades' desk, I can't remember what it's called but it puts your keepsake box inside every chamber between main areas. But you can also only use each of the keepsakes once per run. but yeah, definitely a viable strategy too - I used to switch to Achilles' for the third and fourth areas.

maybe it's as close to feeling dread as I'll get at the moment, but god drat, I'm really feeling frustrated and sad for you guys back in the States right now. so much has been stacked against people in the name of "rugged individualism" for a while, but this seems like it could be an actual breaking point.

Our healthcare ‘system,’ such as it is, is being pushed to the breaking point and could very well fail in the next couple of weeks and it isn’t a particularly huge story.

One of our local ED’s decon rooms (a little side room with a shower and drain for like, hosing off bloody equipment, or patients covered in poop or bedbugs) had corpses stacked in it last summer during the delta wave and like no one cares.

If there aren’t bodies stacked in front of the hospital like a movie it “isn’t happening” for a large percentage of the American public.

I'm wondering when all of this turns into metaphorical pitchforks and torches, and not just small business tyrants rioting to "stop the steal" but a wider swath of people just loving walking out and saying no.

Flight sticks? Awesome, an actual controller that could move a character to the left or right in a proper manner? Impossible.

This but a slight change - it's not that the controllers were trash (though they largely were), it's that controller support was incredibly hit and miss.

having the Xbox 360 pad become a default PC game pad not only meant most games supported it, but supported game pads period, which then begat developers allowing for more native support for basically all of the console controllers (especially now that many also support Bluetooth).

It’s wild.

That's part of the reason I decided last week we weren't going to go out much for the time being - case numbers jumping huge, my wife and I are both 4/5 months after the second shot, and while the government has pushed forward timelines for boosters, we don't know when we'll get that from our local municipality. And the last thing either of us needs is to get sick, especially since she's 8 months pregnant :v:

As soon as I'm eligible I'll go get boosted, once she's post-delivery and okay we'll see how she can get it as well. we've also heard from doctors here we might want to get boosters for MMR shots as well to deal with the newborn? Not sure what that's about yet but we'll have to look into it as well.

Went down a weird rabbit hole and came across what has been my favorite conspiracy theory of all time. I always forget about it for a couple years but it always comes back up.

Stevie Wonder isn’t actually blind. There’s a billion videos on YouTube about it with people talking about it but I like this one where it’s different celebrities telling stories about Stevie messing with them, then ends in “proof” that he’s not blind. He catches a mic stand on stage that was falling over that Paul McCartney had bumped into. That’s the proof.

https://youtu.be/XsEcNlRZFgQ

Bomani Jones has had a couple of very good bits about Stevie perhaps being blind or not. A couple of the highlights included buying enormous HDTVs at Best Buy, and how good his backup singers often look.

it's supposed to be tongue-in-cheek, and not taken seriously, but I would joke around and say it's the only conspiracy theory I believe just to make people really confused.

Its also funny because most people assuming blind means having a complete and total lack of vision while the definition and degrees of blindness can vary greatly while still being considered "blind". Some people can only see vague shapes, some can only see a few feet in front of them, and others may have incredibly narrow fields of vision. So, someone can see, watch TV, and even react to visual stimuli but still be considered blind.

Oh for sure - I have a colleague from grad school who is legally blind but still has vision. Just somehow hadn’t connected that possibility to Stevie at all.

If you put the Ares boon on the shield special it'll give you a pretty safe way to get through but you'll eventually need to learn how to avoid attacks. Make sure to buy the extra dash and extra health at the mirror and all of the death defiances

the other thing I'll say for the posters in here getting started on Hades: God Mode isn't a cheat. It helps reduce some damage taken, but it's also a good way to give yourself enough time to learn the things you need to learn without either only getting to that area once, or by getting to a place and dying right away. There's so much in the game past the first time you clear it, lowering that wall shouldn't be seen as cheating at all.

I'm also not sure about Xbox Series X availability but the Xbox Series S is still a damned fine way to get access to the new games, and if you ever upgrade, it's a great second room streaming console/won't lose too much value to sell it on. Only issues are that it's 1440p instead of 4K, doesn't have a Blu-Ray drive (more for games than media) and the internal HDD is ~370 gb, which means shuffling game downloads.
