I've spent most of my 2022 reading. I've already completed 1 book and I'm 75% through the other. Its raining and I have nothing to do, so at least I'm getting into that goal of 75 books this year.

Edit: oh poo poo the first chat thread regular already been ban hammered. RIP Timby.

Finally saw Matrix 2,3, and 4 yesterday and today. They’re all pretty bad. Original Matrix is still pretty good though.

Lukewarm take: seeing them all in a row, I think the second (Reloaded) is actually the worst. It’s a real double-whammy of lame action setpieces and nothing of consequence happening.

Yeah the 2nd one really suffered from having to set up the trilogy's final movie, over done CGI and not really knowing what to do with the character once he became 'the one' 4 was just bad from start to finish but the action at the end was kind of decent.

The 3rd one had some good set pieces from what I remember but I'd rather not watch it again to remind myself it sucks and be happy with my memories of it.

I thought about it and realized I haven’t gone a month without having a drink since before college maybe. I’m 38 now. Then I thought about it some more and realized can’t remember the last time I went a week without a drink. I just pretty consistently have a drink or two. It’s rare that I drink enough to get more than a good buzz or outright drunk. I guess that probably classifies me as an alcoholic and I’m wondering what this’ll do to me.

I decided I'm not going to have a drink til I turn 34 in March. It's part money saving because I don't have a job but mostly just for health and mental health. I'm not a problem drinker but I kind of get into that trap of 2-3 beers at the "end of the week" on Friday, anywhere between 2 and 10 on saturday if I'm socialising and 3-4 on a Sunday evening and I realised it was probably consuming too many calories, costing a bunch of money I could spend on other things and if I'm being honest - affecting the decisions I make when inebriated to a negative degree.

I went a a full month at 3 different times last year. It gets easier as you go. I liked to mark the end of the week by buying myself something like a diet soft drink or a kombucha or something instead of booze. I also set a goal of going for at least a 30 minute walk every afternoon and reading 75 books this year. My diet and exercise regime when I can afford the gym is already pretty dialled in but cutting booze can't hurt.

EDIT: Congrats D-Link that's cool af.

To be totally honest - I kind of sat down and thought about all the poo poo I put into my body or my brain to make myself feel good - social media, video games, porn, trash tv, trash books, drugs, booze, lovely food and kind of ran down the list of the good and bad aspects of these and while I would personally be really happy to switch to weed and cut out everything else, I kind of feel like replacing booze with weed isn't really fixing my problem in the first place which is feeling the need to make myself feel good or better or some days, not miserable and try to find why I feel like I want or need these things over stuff that I do that's constructive and also makes me feel good.

I used to like to write short stories and longer form ones, I used to sketch, I used to hike a lot more, I enjoy learning a new skill - its why I took up rifle shooting. I gotta think if I get to a Friday night and feel like eating a pizza, drinking half of, or a full six pack of strong IPAs and using that to relieve stress - that's probably not going to be better long term than if I changed into running clothes, took a light jog, made a healthy meal and read a good book so I could get up early and go to the range or go for a hike or get back into BJJ. Rather than losing a chunk of my saturday feeling a little down, a little down at myself for eating trash and boozin after lifting like a psycho for 5 days etc and also having those feelings of "gently caress it - I broke my diet anyway, might as well buy something for dinner instead of cooking and finish off that 6 pack / case whatever".

Please don't take this as me pissing in your face over weed. I had a friend of mine I used to date who's a psychiatrist advise me to take a proper inventory of my habits and work on myself a little bit while I hunted for jobs so I don't get to the point where I snap and resign and I kind of realised my habits aren't as good as I thought they were just because I read before bed and lift weights every day. There's quite a bit more I could substitute and improve if I want to be happier overall.

I still want to be able to have a day every now and then where i have a few micro brews and a pizza and watch spiderman or share a nice bottle of wine at dinner, toast someone's success, a birthday or something but starting off with 3 months of no booze, trying to walk for 30mins as a signal that it's time to let go of the day and if I'm bored with nothing to do crack a book instead of finding a "new show" might help me form some better habits and a better foundation.

Ugh Covid is up to thousands of cases a day here now - the govts decided to let it rip for - reasons now that everyone is 80% vaxed. The problem is my brothers fiance is pregnant, my parents have health issues and I get sinus problems / flare ups for no discernible reason. The tests that are supposed to be readily available are so low in stock everywhere they're being price gouged - like 60 dollars for a pack of 5. So Much so that some pharmacies are breaking down packs into singles and selling them for as much as 15 dollars a pop.

I got some intel from a buddy of mine who works in supply chain stuff and he was telling me a lot of big companies assumed the govt was going to give them out for free or demand they were sold at a capped price - like all the other testing has been and cancelled large orders and only ordered small batches as there wasn't great profit in it. The govt has for whatever reason decided there would be no "interference" with pricing at the 11th hour - so basically you have people popping positive at a 20% test rate in the govt testing facilities. No tests available for purchase and the ones you can get are almost unaffordable because companies are jacking up the price.

I've also got a few emails from jobs I've applied for stating they're suspending their hiring process "for the time being" given the evolving situation with Covid 19 or are conducting all future interviews via phone or online.

This is kind of giving me the anxieties the last couple of days. I want to find a new job but this is making it much harder and I can't risk getting someone in my family sick and can't afford to burn cash on surety that I'm fine and able to visit when I want to.

You can definitely over use dash. The problem I've had in my recent efforts has simply been not getting the boons I need to make a decent build. something defensive for dash, and damage stacking on special and attack is my usual go to.

If you can - spec for athena and get her deflection dodge right off the bat, I tend to ignore sword in lieu of gloves for any close, dodge heavy build. I just did a pretty easy run using the gloves, got the athena dodge first, next boon was Doom stack on attack from Ares and after that I just kept speccing for stuff that adds to the dodge or to the attack damage and you can pretty much just dash and punch all day every day. I think when I killed Hades I still had my death defiance in the pocket and 100 health on the board.

You can change your boon after you kill a boss too, so even if you need a death defiance to get past the minotaur and theseus or dad you can always spec for the god you want and then switch back to skelly's boon after you clear the hydra.

Yeah - having done a bunch of interviews and hiring in the past I know that like 90% of it comes down to the interview and the feeling I got from the person over just about everything else. I wanted to make sure they hit the bare minimum standard of competence based on their resume but it all came down to how I felt in the room. Being on the hiring side should make the application process easier, it tends to just make it more frustrating because I'm spending time trying to stand out just a little on the poo poo that doesn't matter to get through to the stuff that does. I know that I can crush just about any interview and have 0 anxiety about that part of the process - its getting to it that drives me nuts.

Yeah that kind of "prodigal son" story telling where the protagonist starts out as whatever - goes through changes only to realise at the end he needs to get back to his roots kind of deal is kind of dime a dozen in a lot of properties and it's not like the Mandalorian broke the mould in terms of story telling either.

I wouldn't be surprised if their whole arc for him this season is him becoming kind of weak and ineffective because he learned lessons only for him to devolve back into a lone gun ruthless bounty hunter by the end tbh.
