Hey all, I'm working on the OP for next year, but I'll acknowledge I'm not an expert in everything posted in this thread. My blind spots are mainly with foreign comics (i.e. Scandinavian and Japanese) and the older 20's and 30's era selections.

If anyone who posts these comics or reads them enough to be familiar would be willing to shoot me a PM with a one or two-sentence summary of what they're about, I'd be happy to integrate into the OP to give an adequate introduction to new readers.

Well, since I don't have DMs, and the comic I post is not native to the U.S., despite it's content, I'll provide the summary here (if you want to use it):

Blueberry was a long-running serial by Belgian author Jean-Michel Charlier and French artist Jean Henri Gaston Giraud telling the fictional history of the American Wild West primarily through the eyes of the titular character; a roguish but good-hearted soldier.

Notable for it's attitudes towards Native American peoples begin more than simply story beats (although it can get a bit Karl-May-y), its complex and twisting adventure stories, a critical attitude towards colonial and capitalist exploitation and frankly ASTOUNDING art, it typically gets updated three pages at a time on Tuesdays, Thursdays and weekends; subject to potential delays depending on when translations can be accomplished by yours truly.

It was pointed out in the BSS Discord that it's a little weird to end a long-running strip with a guest artist, but it was also pointed out that last week was the actual end of the strip, and we're just running down the clock at this point.

Speaking of "the real ending", here's the official annotation key for the final Sunday strip, which, if nothing else, points out that TomBat seated his actual family next to the pizza box golem, which I was completely blind to until just now.

I also had a terrible idea for what might go into this slot in the new year. We'll see how that plays out when we get there.

I think the strip should end with her reading Lisa's Story, and then the guest author/artist retelling the entire thing from the reader's perspective for the next five real-life years. The comic can be renamed "Lisa's Legacy" and we'll all just collectively kill ourselves to avoid it.

Couldn’t you guys post something good? There are too many hate reads as it is. I’m tired of seeing 30 new posts, thinking I’ve got something to look at, and most are replies about kids in the snow or animals eating each other or how rotten working in a shop is, and there’s like two posts with any fresh comics in them.

There's a lot of great stuff posted here, and a lot of not-so-great stuff. Discussing and joking about both kinds is the whole point of the thread.

The thing is that just about all of the stuff I post is stuff I genuinely like for one reason or another, and the other ones--and to be fair, there are less of those every year--are interesting for certain levels of their perceived wrongness. But as much as chilling out with quality (and especially watching people light up when something from a hundred years ago connects with them) has obvious rewards, the poo poo ones have always been the big conversation starters. It's a real "between two stools" situation.

What strips aren't being posted anyway? We missing some high quality zombie strips here or something? Dilbert is politely banned, somebody was discussing starting Doonesbury, I can't think offhand of many regulars we're missing that aren't 10+ years in and recycling jokes since that 2nd year.

Also the bad strips enhance appreciation of the good and tend to be interesting. Like the trend of letting unvetted webcomic artists onto the pages and seeing how they react to deadlines these last few years has been pretty entertaining.

And besides there are dozens of good strips already posted.
