This line of thinking about animals is incredibly outdated and has been proven wrong scientifically quite a bit. I’m not saying there’s a goat out there contemplating Plato but to say there’s nothing going on inside their heads but impulse is easily proved wrong, like spend 5 minutes with a dog or watch a documentary about elephants.

Even given 'humans are too likely to project their traits onto things', I cannot imagine living a life where looking at any non-human animal triggers a response of 'that is a soulless animated carcass and nothing more' and elicits a response of both slight disgust and pity for the person that views animals that way. It's just so alien to me.
