Problem description: If I attempt to have my laptop read a CD, the optical drive makes a weird clicking noise and will only work about 10% of the time. Here is a video:

Attempted fixes: I have installed and updated all drivers for my PC.

If it has trouble with official audio CDs then the drive is probably just dying.

If it does it only with certain CD-Rs or CD-RWs etc. it could be a conflict between the drive and the media or the CDs have gone bad.

Well, the problem has returned three months after I installed a new optical drive, so it's clearly not an issue with the drive.

Makes me more concerned there's a motherboard/wiring/electrical issue that's damaging the drive.

Although it is possible another drive has gone bad. Optical drives can be junky. I've seen a lot fail without much use.

IIRC Lite-On had a really bad reputation at one point.
