For fans of 2001 tag teams:

Edge recently discovered his neck was fine and came back (with much fanfare) to what is apparently a legacy killing run in WWE

Christian discovered his neck was actually fine and signed to AEW (to much jeering) and has had series of good to great matches including winning the Impact/TNA world titles and a great match for the AEW world title. He is currently managing the current AEW Tag Champions: Luke Perry’s real life son and a wrestling dinosaur.

Matt Hardy brought his Broken persona to AEW on the first pandemic show and now has his own stable as Big Money Matt Hardy. Everything around him is the kind of joyful stupidity I absolutely need in my wrestling, excluding his feud with Sammy Guevara

Jeff Hardy walked out on a WWE house show. WWE made it known that he was offered rehab but turned it down. To match the thread’s theme it’s starting to appear that Jeff does not need rehab, there was no reason to suspect that he did, and WWE was just starting rumours to kill his chances at signing somewhere else. What a company.

I'm gonna be fascinated to see what happens to WWE after Vince kicks it. When you cut the head off the chicken, is it going to survive like Mike the Headless Chicken? Or is there going to be a power struggle, since I presume Vince really hasn't designated anyone to take over after he dies (because he will never die; he is immortal)

He's going to sell the whole company to whomever before that happens. He thinks he's running Marvel.
Otherwise there's a dude called Nick Khan who looks to be the next CEO and Prez

I still think the most chilling report of WWE culture was when Vicky Guerrero did an interview after coming to AEW and commenting that people will look you in the eye like it was some kind of revelation.

Found him a bit unfriendly outside the ring, myself being a manlet referee/hilariously skinny trainee, but we worked an in-ring angle for a match and he was really excited to get in-depth with the acting and performance side of things, wanting to rehearse reactions and such. So basically he was kinda a dick until we had a scene together, then he was game as gently caress to make it look as good as possible.

2 more points re: blading.

1) Sometimes the wrestler hits an artery or goes to deep. See the Cody vs Dustin fight for a good example. Cody basically had to cary Dustin through the second half of the match because his big brother was getting woozy.
2) Wrestlers will sometimes take Aspirin to thin their blood if they know they are going to blade. Makes it look better.

I think the other reason Cornette and Ruso and even Bischoff hate the current wrestling scene so much is when these new companies started showing up they all went: "So, when are you hiring me" and go a "Hmmmm, no." in response.

Cornette worked with NWA for awhile but managed to make a joke so racist he's pretty much blackballed now.

The thing with AEW’s process is we don’t really know what it is. We know that people who can get their ideas over get more TV time, we know that Tony has ideas then works with the workers to get them on TV. But we also get stories like Brodie Lee being the person who added Alan Angels and Preston Vance to the Dark Order, and Abbadon’s debut being a Kenny Omega written story line, and The Wingmen being created by one of the backstage guys (maybe CD? Don’t remember)

But that’s the weird thing about AEW, someone mentioned that the EVPs have worked to create a reduced bullshit environment backstage, but the flip side of that is a new Kayfabe where if the locker room decides no one needs to know about something, they just don’t talk about it.

It's not even the "I'm sorry, I love you" part that makes that ending great. Earlier in the match, Michaels had a shot to end it, but hesitated and Flair almost got him in a Figure Four because of it. At the end of the match, Flair knew he was done and was straight-up beckoning Michaels like they were Rorschach and Dr. Manhattan.

After WrestleMania, there was a pretty cool Michaels vs. Batista feud where Batista's POV was, "You could have held back or even let Flair win and you didn't. You ended his career and I'm going to make you pay."

This is true. But it’s the spot people remember. It’s also the bit that was genuinely touching at the moment then funny as hell ever since.

But yeah, a genuinely great match.
