The incompetency of the response to the plague has essentially doomed America as a hegemon, both due to the display of rampant ideological incompetency that it it has spread through its alliance system as well as crippling its workers through widespread sequellae, and its educational and medical systems as workers either die, suffer sequellae or flee for the hills. It probably wasn't the only cause, but it was the last straw.
