Most of the stuff in my kitchen was gifts from when my wife and i got married, its nice because we got a lot of cool things but also stuff that I never would have gone out and bought on my own. Like a waffle maker or immersion blender...

Are they throwing a party, OP? Are you invited to their wedding? If they are just "signing a piece of paper" and expecting folks to send them gifts after 40 its a bit lovely but if they are going all out then its sort of expected you bring a gift.

did you not have a wedding registry? my wife had one because it's fun to shoot things with a scan gun in a store if you don't work there. I think it was pretty minimal because cash is king and we wanted to encourage that.
