It's definitely Hyperion, and not "I Have No Mouth". If you start with "No Mouth", you actually have to come up with a few additional elements (the AI's eventual and inevitable development in the far future, and the effect this inevitability has in the past, etc). Hyperion does that legwork already.

Also, side note, if you want a disturbing story, Hyperion is a good read. It's really weird, though (but not all that bleak or dystopian... eventually, even if there's a blade robot who goes around impaling and torturing people).

Uploading your brain could possibly give you broader capability of experience and cognitive ability; so much so that it could be nightmarishly terrifying, and maybe overwhelmingly sad. Like, imagine suddenly being able to see everything in a hundred mile radius, get a 360° view of any point, and being able to comprehend it all at once. And then have a similar ability with every thought and idea as well as having a gigantic pool of encyclopedic knowledge that you could instantly tap into. It could be like jumping into cold water.
