Democrats rely on polling too much, and if you think “Defund the police” was just too popular a platform for them to embrace, you don’t know politics.

As in right now, the Republican response accused them of defunding the police.

No one who's mad about defund the police and actually voting primarily on it believes Biden. It's the same trap that they keep falling into. What it will definitely do is demoralize even more people who were previously pretty loving energized. Hope that they don't need a bunch of people to fill the gaps in campaigns that desperate Poli-Sci students can't .

In addition, in the medium term, funding the police will fatally weaken the Democratic party in that a heavily armed and violent security force will continue to brutalize the bottom third of the country, further reducing the choice offered to what remains of the electorate to two flavors of Authoritarian Capitalism (a contest the GOP will probably win given their overwhelming constitutional advantages). porfiria fucked around with this message at 06:29 on Mar 2, 2022 |

Kalit posted:Regardless of how damaging the police can be, it will still get more people to vote for the Democratic party in the midterms. The defund the police movement is still extremely unpopular. The Dems won the presidency and the Senate by the slimmest of margins, due in large part to a lot of people who were motivated by the Floyd protests. Do you really think the Dems are going to pick up enough chud votes through this bootlicking to make up for spitting in the faces of the largest protest movement in American history? Keep in mind that the corporate media machine is already screaming that he's obviously lying, and will continue to scream that for the next 8 months. You don't win elections by getting the other guys to switch sides. You win by motivating your base.
