Relegation is a word that gets thrown around this time of year and there are some tasty possibilities at the bottom of the table. Hopefully Norwich will recover enough to be the league punching bag again next year and make way for Burnley, Everton and Newcastle for maximum hilarity in my book.

City have got the refs well and truly bought it seems so only a massive bottle job or pep brained gently caress up will see Liverpool win their 20th league title. The :siren: TITLE DECIDER :siren: won't be played until the 10th of April, but United will have their say in the title race when they play City this Sunday and Liverpool on the 20th.

Good thread op. Lol that fat frank stamped his feet long enough that the refs had to say sorry for making a bad decision that happens to every team but should never be allowed to happen to him

Also wasn't sure what to make of the new Leeds boss since

1) he's american and you know what they're like
2) he's managed all three fizzy drink teams
3) we already did 'won loads of trophies in Austria' with darko milanic

Then I saw this clip of him scything down Beckham in MLS and starting a big fight so he's cool now

Abramovich has apparently confirmed that he's put Chelsea up for sale and is claiming, among other things, that he's written off the 1.5b in loans he's given the club over the years and that he's going to donate the proceeds to victims of the war in Ukraine, which, uh, okay.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2022/mar/02/chelsea-swiss-billionaire-hansjorg-wyss-says-offered-chance-buy-club-roman-abramovich

quote:

“I have always taken decisions with the club’s best interest at heart,” Abramovich said. “In the current situation, I have therefore taken the decision to sell the club, as I believe this is in the best interest of the club, the fans, the employees, as well as the club’s sponsors and partners.

“The sale of the club will not be fast-tracked but will follow due process. I will not be asking for any loans to be repaid. This has never been about business nor money for me, but about pure passion for the game and club. Moreover, I have instructed my team to set up a charitable foundation where all net proceeds from the sale will be donated. The foundation will be for the benefit of all victims of the war in Ukraine. This includes providing critical funds towards the urgent and immediate needs of victims, as well as supporting the long-term work of recovery.”

Abramovich said the sale was an “incredibly difficult decision” and that “it pains me to part with the club in this manner”. He said he hoped to make a final visit to Stamford Bridge to say goodbye.

Can't say I saw this one coming.

Abramovich is planning to sell Chelsea and donate the profits to Ukrainian humanitarian relief. And he won’t ask for repayment of his loans.

Is Abramovich allegedly donating the profits from the sale of Chelsea to Ukraine war charities some kind of sign that Roman disproves of the war? Would it be a slap at Putin? Is it purely shrewd PR work?

Hard to say, to be honest. Apparently he's trying to liquidate basically all his assets in Britain at the moment, selling all his houses, selling Chelsea, almost certainly because he's worried he's going to get caught up in sanctions and have his assets either frozen or seized. It wouldn't surprise me if he legitimately does disapprove of the war (though whether that's because he dislikes the war itself or because it affects his personal prospects, who can say) but it's very hard to tell from public statements that could equally be designed to signal public disapproval to try and stay off immediate sanctions lists.

I've seen a few oligarchs make statements similar to this, and I think it's interesting to note the neutral terms he uses throughout. He doesn't say he's donating money to Ukraine, or Ukrainians, just victims of the war. Who could just as easily be Russians, Belarusians, whatever.

I dunno, I think you'd be mad to take a statement like this from some evil thieving oval office at face value.
