https://twitter.com/AEW/status/1499189545656541186?s=20&t=P7Igu7hpBLq5SEGTVU7WkA After weeks of speculation, which ranged from the plausible (a streaming deal on HBO Max) to the preposterous (HHH and Shane O'Mac joining AEW)Big Biceps Tony, in a industry shaking announcement, uh, announced that he had outright purchased lock, stock, and barrel, Ring of Honor wrestling. That includes not only all intellectual property (trademarks, titles, etc) but the entirety of the Ring of Honor tape library. https://twitter.com/TonyKhan/status/1499188969061470208?s=20&t=P7Igu7hpBLq5SEGTVU7WkA So the question everyone is asking is: Now what? Little to no information has come out since last night. Will ROH still air on Sinclair owned networks? What about the show ROH has been touting for next month? Is it still happening? What about the Honor Club? Will ROH be run as a separate brand, and if so, who will run it? Who will be on it? So this thread is to ask you, the reader, what would you like to see happen. Or what you think will happen? Will they go to HBO Max? Will ROH title be defended on AEW PPVs? Will we ever get FTR vs The Briscoes? edit: Goddam typo in the title; it's supposed to be "So Now You Own ROH"

When Tony started talking about Christopher Daniels during the announcement last night, I first thought he was going to say that Daniels would be running/booking ROH or something. Was just as pleased to see him wrestle Danielson. Very cool to be excited about wrestling, wherever any of this goes next.

I'd love for ROH to be focused on running smaller venues and highlighting lesser-known talent. Honestly, as much as WWE hosed up NXT, they had a model that worked for quite a while. Here in Pittsburgh you'd get an NXT show at a smaller concert venue, it felt like you were at an indy show, but you were seeing some of the best wrestlers you could get all on one card. You got simpler entrances and very little stuff outside of the in-ring action, it felt different and was a great time. That said, you could still do big AEW/ROH supercards and you definitely want to leverage your AEW talent to help rebuild the ROH fanbase. Put Danielson on a bunch of these shows, build it into his storyline of looking for young talent to mold

I could see BBT adopting his Dark model and holding a set of tapings for a month long series of TV. Maybe even do it at Universal. Though I'm most curious about TV; if Sinclair is still going to air it. Otherwise something like an hour long, Saturday morning (11 am) slot might be good. I'm not sure what airs on TBS/TNT at that time. Also, with HBO Max acquiring the live streaming rights to US Soccer (and I think NHL too), them adding an hour of ROH might be feasible too.

why waste time say lot word when few word do trick? Ideally RoH remains a separate entity booked as a unique show (rather than AEW-lite), with occasional crossover between AEW and RoH for storylines here and there. RoH should absolutely have its own stars, storylines, titles, etc., but with some occasional guest stars/feuds from AEW (as an example, think back a few years where NJPW and NOAH would have some bleedover like Suzuki-gun showing up in NOAH and running roughshod for a year+; while that wasn’t the GREATEST use of a talent exchange, the idea of a team/individual that isn’t getting a ton of use in one fed going to the other for a bit is what I’m getting at). This approach seems preferable to RoH just being the out-and-out dumping ground for developmental AEW guys/AEW guys without much to do, or, even worse, making it a “WWE PRESENTS ECW”-type show where it comes across as second-rate/lesser than its parent company and therefore seems like it has a chip on its shoulder that it can’t move past. I want to see the “new RoH” as a workrate-focused promotion, maybe even run it as a fed focused on stats & win/loss records moreso than AEW is. Storylines and feuds should be along the lines of straightforward “lets fight to see who’s the best” to get started (lets wait a bit before we start throwing in magic and other such shenanigans). I’d want to see more Tournaments and some gimmick titles like an Ironman Belt (that has to be defended in 15-30 min ironman matches each time) that make it stand out as different against just another AEW show (not that I don’t enjoy AEW’s products, just don’t need more of the same). I don’t know who you put in charge of booking (Daniels?), but it should be someone with a similar vision as Tony but with the ability to put their own spin on it. Plus boost the production value. Edit: Sandman McMahon posted:Ring of Honour should be a segment on every Rampage where all the wrestlers Tony isn’t using get together in a warehouse that has a ring with no ropes and ladies dancing in cages and then a very coked out Tony screams into the mic while the wrestlers shoot fight for our amusement. I do like that this immediately(?) gives AEW a new set of titles to play with. There are some people/teams currently in AEW that probably wouldn't sniff a title for years at least. Moving them to ROH and giving them a run there with them can help build them up, and give them a bit of legitimacy in the eyes of the viewers. Tag Team-wise, I think the ROH World Tag Team Titles would be good for: Evil Uno & Stu Grayson TH2 2point0 Angels & 10 Private Party and of course, you know FTR will want to add them to their lists of accolades. Single guys I could see working well there on a temp basis: Christopher Daniels Kazarian Daniel Garcia Jay Lethal Joey Janela Kip Sabian Lance Archer Tony Nese

Honestly it would be cool to do an ROH showcase match on Dynamite every week or something. I feel like early TNA did something like this with NWA affiliates and it's a neat idea.

ROH used as another way to showcase technical stuff would be cool. Not sure if the plan is to actually run like, monthly shows for it or something or bring back ROH talent + do an influx of AEW people for it---I'm still confused about what exactly is going to come out of this but I'm sure guys like Gresham are going to be very involved. You could plug in people like Moriarity, Garcia, FTR, Leyla, and Malakai seamlessly into a more technician/"pure" fed for matches.

I agree with Dave that running anything under the ROH name (as opposed to AEW) doesn't make a ton of sense. The ROH name really doesn't have any strength as a brand that AEW doesn't already have. No one that would balk at buying a ticket to an AEW house show will buy one to ROH. There may be something to the idea of shopping ROH-branded tv to non-Turner buyers I suppose.

On the one hand he is already working in Talent Relations in AEW so it'd be hard for him to find time for that as well, but on the other hand he CAN teleport so maybe that cuts down on the travel. And I'd love to see ROH become a side project to AEW where the "not quite ready for Dynamite/Rampage" people and people who aren't currently involved in storylines can work. If they really get their stuff on HBO Max that'd be awesome.

How many people does AEW have that are, or until recently were, doing backstage jobs as well? Pete Avalon was doing something like that, right? Davros1 posted:They could always brand it as something like "AEW Ring of Honor". "AEW presents Ring of Honor?" I'd like to see it eventually become something like a separate, distinct brand with maybe a yearly supercard, similar to the NJPW/NOAH show earlier this year.

My idea version of this (and thus something they wouldn't do). Basically this is AEW's "gateway to the indies". They have a solidly produced TV show on a minor network (let's say they do Saturday evening, as every other wrestling night is taken). They tour 500-1000-seater venues and do large scale shows four times a year (including Glory By Honor and Final Battle) plus a big annual crossover with AEW. Their roster consists of: - A core of talented "ROH Veterans" (Jay Lethal, Jonathan Gresham, the Briscoes, a few more) who also work behind the scenes in production roles. - Touring visitors from AEW, there for either 90 days or six months for a mix of seasoning and just refreshing the talent. They might start at the taping after a PPV (or come in as a surprise at the PPV) and work to the next PPV (or longer) - A rotating cast of indie wrestlers, visitors from Japan, and other special guests. They may be in the company just for a show, for a short tour, or as a tryout to potentially be signed. For the most part, storylines stay separate between ROH and AEW, although they do cross-promote. In terms of style, ROH has a bit more freedom to try stuff out and be experimental. They have more regularly scheduled tournaments, they bring over the Ironman Heavymetalweight title for a bit, they have some Street Wrestling. Stuff that works in ROH might be repeated in AEW. Basically, I'm thinking of it as a way for AEW to try stuff out, get a load of experience for their younger guys, take a good look at the indies, and put on solid wrestling shows.

I'm really curious where this leaves the Honor No More angle in Impact. If you haven't been watching, there was a recent ROH invasion of Impact, where Bennett/Taven/Kanellis/Vincent/PCO started attacking Impact wrestlers. They later added Kenny King, and then Eddie Edwards turned heel and joined them too. Ian Riccaboni has shown up on commentary saying he's not with them, and Gresham has defended the ROH title in Impact but distanced himself from HNM as well. Deonna Purrazzo also won the ROH Women's belt from Rok-C. I know TK and Impact have had a working relationship, but I wonder how this affects the ROH trademarks & belts Impact are currently using.

I think HNM stays as it's own thing, maybe Deonna and Gresham could defend their titles on Dynamite or Rampage (Britt and Bryan would both be great matches). The ROH titles could be cross-divisional I suppose.
