same thing. Garner and whatever Wikipedia's sources are give slightly different accounts, but basically both names appeared about the same time. Noah Webster logged it as aluminum and whoever were the various UK Noahs Webster logged it as aluminium. there was some flip-flopping in usage over the years but now it's settled to aluminum in NA and aluminium in the UK (and I assume other non-Canadian Commonwealth nations?)
