whats even better is you only hear this track once in the game and only for an encounter with 2 enemies so hardly anyone ever got to hear the full thing from playing the game normally

there will never be a video game musician as talented as tim follin, in terms of being able to wrangle extremely limited tech to do unbelievable things

dude was able to take commodore 64, NES and SNES soundchips and work digital magic with them, making music that doesn't sound possible with the tech available, this is a playlist of most of what he produced

the solstice theme is literally something I went and grabbed my parents and brought them over to the NES to listen to because it was that loving unbelievable, and the initial part totally fooled them with my dad being like "this doesn't seem OH MY GOD"

some stuff of his I didn't see posted yet

the silver surfer game background music is insane
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGNSHNf-nlU

and the title music for Spider Man in Arcade's Revenge is FAR TOO GOOD FOR HOW lovely THE GAME IS
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8Q0s95SRXM

he could even make something on the ZX Spectrum approach something reasonably listenable to, which is a goddamn feat
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T42WuUpBuHE

Target Renegade was an NES double dragon clone and its main saving grace was, well, tim follin.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ao8N53m4mGU

really, the biggest crime is that tim follin was cursed to almost exclusively make music for lovely games(solstice is decent and lemmings/rock n roll racing are obviously good)

check the counterpoint man. the thing with amiga tracker music is you have limited number of voices but you've got enough memory for lots of samples so it's like a natural good fit to keep passing between different instruments, like call and response etc.

every amiga machine had the same sound chip (called Paula) - the AGA chipset in the A1200 and A4000 was mean tto include a next gen sound chip as well as graphics but was cut due to time/budget constraints. it was quite bad in that it had 4 channels but they were separated into 2 that came out of the left speaker and 2 that came out of the right. that meant that if you wanted more than 2 voices with the sound centered you had to mix it down in software. the resulting load on the CPU meant that most amiga games would play either sound effects or music, not both at the same time

turrican 2 was special because the guy who did the sound and music (chris hülsbeck) was a loving genius
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fvha_2hAzq0
on this title screen, it mixes down 7 voices in stereo (the opening chords). the music plus the little rolling demo completely maxed out the capacity of the 7MHz motorola 68000 in the amiga A500. In the game the music tracks don't have as many voices but it mixes the music and the game sound effects - you can hear while playing that sometimes sound effects take priority over voices in the music
