The Kaguya author actually has an interesting theory of comedy/character development where you do something just often enough to make the audience think it's going to be the same every time before you start putting twists in it.

Kaguya definitely evolved as time went on. New characters new plotlines new jokes, it keeps it fresh and that's what makes it my favorite romcom.
