Yes and no. Cigarettes are addictive because they contain Mono-Amine Oxidase Inhibitors (basically, 1970s anti-depressants) in addition to the Nicotine. Which chemically interact with the nicotine and does fun dances and pirouettes to make the whole combo more addictive.

Nicotine itself is "habit forming" which is a totally different mechanism in the brain to "addiction". You may become psychologically addicted to it but there's little to no risk of physical clinical chemical dependence.

But also, yeah don't trust a rando like me off the net, a d either way don't fuckin mess with habit forming poo poo either. For me nicotine withdrawal is easier than caffeine but that doesn't mean my dosages didn't steadily climb up beyond the "useful for adhd" point when I started going through poo poo.
