Clarence Thomas not talking during oral arguments is one of the few things he was right about

I think he talks more now though.

well, at least when he's at a hearing and not dying in a hospital

leaking the home address of anyone willing to prosecute woman who get abortions would be another hypothetical thing that could be effective.

knowing home addresses doesn't matter, areas can ban residential picketing. plenty of cities already have.

Honestly surprised the protesters could get to the justices' houses. The block the Obama's "live" on in Chicago is still essentially closed to the public, and protests are definitely forbidden.

Same with Mayor Lightfoot, the block she lives on is often closed off to the public by police.

Planned Parenthood Action Fund can't be considered new anymore

BLM national officially classifying most local branches that did stuff as "rogue" or "hostile" but still fundraising off their work was incredibly bleak. I've got criticisms of the slogan, but as far as I can tell the corporate level grifting was occurring at the national level. There was plenty of amazing local grifting in the 2020 uprisings too, I remember one protest where someone on the sound stopped the action until everyone Venmo'd money to their org, but just as often people trying to lead just had bad politics.

In contrast, if you go to one of the "anchor city" demonstrations on Saturday you will hear the CEO of a PAC tell you to donate and vote for the Democrats in November instead of protesting more about Roe. A lot of the reproductive justice orgs are led by old white people who don't have the same hustle to fundraise off consistent protest. It's easier for them to sign off on emails than go give a speech outside.

lots of people are offended by the concept of a "domestic supply of infants" and the implication of an infant market. I urge people to think rationally about the issue. We need to think about how we create a market for infant futures, infant derivatives, and all sorts of infant back securities

New SC decisions dropping right now
https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/slipopinion/21

first one is about this dude

quote:

Respondent Robert Boule owns a bed-and-breakfast—the Smuggler’s Inn—in Blaine, Washington. The inn abuts the international border between Canada and the United States. Boule at times helped federal agents identify and apprehend persons engaged in unlawful cross-border activity on or near his property. But Boule also would provide transportation and lodging to illegal border crossers. Often, Boule would agree to help illegal border crossers enter or exit the United States, only to later call federal agents to report the unlawful activity.

edit: they only released one and it wasn't a big one, but it still sucks

WASHINGTON (AP) — An armed man who threatened to kill Justice Brett Kavanaugh was arrested near the justice’s house in Maryland, officials said Wednesday.

The California man, in his 20s, was armed with a gun and a knife, according to a law enforcement official. The man, whose identity has not been released, arrived in a taxi early in the morning near Kavanaugh’s home in a suburb of the nation’s capital and told law enforcement officers he wanted to kill Kavanaugh, said the official, who was not authorized to publicly discuss details of the ongoing investigation and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

Supreme Court spokeswoman Patricia McCabe confirmed the man was armed and had made threats against Kavanaugh. The man was arrested about 1:50 a.m. by the Montgomery County, Maryland, police and the U.S. Marshals Service, the agencies said.

The Washington Post initially reported the arrest, quoting sources who said the man also was carrying burglary tools. He told police he was upset by a leaked draft opinion suggesting the court is about to overrule Roe v. Wade, the court’s landmark abortion case, the Post reported. He was also said to be upset over recent mass shootings, according to the newspaper.

The justices have been provided round-the-clock security at their homes amid concerns about violence following the court’s ultimate decision.

“This kind of behavior is obviously behavior we will not tolerate,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said. “Threats of violence and actual violence against the justices of course strike at the heart of our democracy and we will do everything we can to prevent them and to hold people who do them accountable.”

President Joe Biden praised authorities for quickly apprehending the man, deputy White House press secretary Andrew Bates said in an email.

There have been protests at the homes of Kavanaugh and other justices, as well as demonstrations at the court, where a security fence rings the building and nearby streets have been closed.

A Homeland Security Department report said the draft opinion, leaked in early May, has unleashed a wave of threats against officials and others and increased the likelihood of extremist violence.
