 What is this show about? Menou, an executioner of the church, is tasked with assassinating people from another world summoned into their own by forbidden magic. Possessing incredible magical powers, these otherworlders tend to be younger, too immature to handle their powers responsibly and prone to being taken over by their own magic to destructive effect, which only grows more unstable each time they use them. Operating alongside her aide, Momo, they seem to be going on a regular assassination mission. However... after killing the target, her magic, the power to rewind time, triggers and brings her back to life. Unable to kill her, Menou has to deceive the otherworlder, a girl named Akari, and travel in search of a way to nullify her magic. On top of this all, Menou and Akari seem to feel they have some mysterious link with each other, to Momo's jealousy. What will happen between them on this journey... and does Akari have some secrets of her own that she's hiding? Is there anything you specifically like about this show compared to others? The production isn't quite luxurious, but it's a lot better than you'd expect from what feels like a fairly lesser known isekai novel adaptation, it's a bit heavy on magic super moves but the more physical aspects of the action scenes are pretty impactful and the character animation is consistently expressive and fun to watch, and it often dives into weirder bits of body horror that look pretty cool. Primarily though, the script is solid, it feels interested in trying to explore common isekai tropes in a way that feels aware of the genre without nudging you in the shoulder over it constantly and the dialog is bizarre in a way that has a lot of personality and makes even the slower parts a pretty enjoyable watch. If you like fairly off beat action yuri shows like Princess Principal, Akuma no Riddle or El Cazador De La Bruja, this has been a good one of those so far. Where can I watch it? hidive

Given the pacing I expect we're only going to get 2 volumes animated which is for the best as Vol 2 has a decent enough stopping point while having future plot hooks compared to Volume 3's very mean cliffhanger

I'm digging this a lot so far. Animation is great, the magic system is fun and the world is deep and interesting so far. I really like this as a take on the whole Isekai genre that actually reflects what it would be like to be someone who has to live in the world where super powered outsiders keep getting summoned to. Also I'm assuming this gets super gay eventually, it's based off a Yuri Light Novel series right?

well we started off the show with introducing menou's own personal gay aide, the second episode had akari jokingly going "ahahaha what if we like went on a fantastic journey together and our relationship deepened. what do you think would happen between us. wouldn't that be crazy" and half of this ep was a buff princess complimenting momo's fashion sense while trying to kill her on top of a train car so the show's not exactly trying to be slow in getting there also the isekai mechanics are funny cause they're not even quite like typical modern isekai where it's people who are dying and being reincarnated, it's explicitly that the nobility are summoning them in while they're still in the middle of their personal lives with the intent of abusing their powers for their own gain. it's a bit more in line with like, dunbine, something more classical where it's expressly being done for the purposes of someone living in that world and is something that has been happening long enough to have an impact on the local culture, just combining that with more modern isekai genre aesthetics and tropes.

In fact there's one where two female characters from Japan are summoned and one is kicked out immediately as not being the "chosen one" they were trying to summon! What introduced Menou's gay side in episode one? I feel like I missed it.

Good show. The setting is interesting and I like how Menou has been characterised. Genuinely curious for what will happen next, I assume Menou will have to break with the Church pretty soon if she wants to not murder her girlfriend

I like that Menou has a personal stake in it too, not only because her entire village was annihilated, but because she herself was also “blanched” and had her personality erased. It’s a creepy power, I love it. It also really gives you an idea of the stakes for if Akari loses control of her powers, time powers are obviously insanely dangerous in this context.

I like how the pure concepts can extend to uses outside of obvious ones. The ability for the pure concept of white to bleach memories and personality is pretty clever. I bet the concept of null would have been pretty similar and dangerous. Also the show seems to be hinting that Menou is a secret lost one, since she has memories of Akari from middle school. Having her soul made white might also explain why she doesn't have a pure concept as that seems to be in the realm of the ability to blank it.

There's definitely something weirdly sinister about the pure concepts, they talk a lot as if the pure concepts have sentience and motivations of their own, apart from their owners. I'm getting the vibe that they are sort of like parasites that attach themselves to the other worlders when they are brought over. It's creepy, I love it.

It’s reminding me of the manhwa Survival Story of A Sword King In A Fantasy World, which is also set in a world where isekai'd people are despised and killed on sight. There, it turns out that the special powers bestowed on the otherworlders are actually cover for a curse designed to slowly drive them insane and make them addicted to murder, because the god that transported them and gave them those powers is an enemy of the local gods and wants to sow chaos. Although it can’t be the exact same situation here because it’s humans doing the summoning, but what we don’t know is where the powers are coming from, so there could be something similar going on. My other theory is that the Human Errors are the result of the Church meddling in things. Maybe they were trying to brainwash otherworlders to control them, or performing experiments on them to try and replicate their powers and driving them insane in the process, so in order to cover up their involvement they spread the lie that otherworlders going insane and losing control of their powers is just a thing that naturally happens. It would explain how apparently nothing went wrong for many years (long enough for the world's language to get completely replaced by Japanese) before all these disasters happened within what seems to be a relatively short span of time. Villains who send heroes to investigate a conspiracy they're involved in are the most baffling thing. It makes sense if they're doing it because it would be suspicious not to send someone, but doing it just to separate people like Orwell did was a very bad idea.

On the other hand she expects to kill Menou and extract Akari's Pure Concept; doesn't care because she thinks she's already won; essentially this way she can account for Momo's location while dealing with Akari alone. Because even if Ashuna and Momo escape the Dragon and the Demon they got a whole organization presumably that can hunt them down? I'm expecting Akari's time powers to kick in to save the day however. In a way, just as its suspicious to NOT send someone as you say; it would probably tip their hand and also be just as suspicious to try to apprehend Momo prior to Menou's arrival in the Cathedral, and most importantly too many variables if they're allowed together; as long as Momo is distracted long enough presumably that's good enough.
