Watch the doco called The Cave on the Thai soccer team, it's incredible and emotional. Only disappointing part is they didn't include any interviews with the boys themselves but maybe they or their parents didn't want to.
National Geographic bought the rights to the cave divers' stories, so The Rescue is all from their POV. Netflix bought the rights to the soccer team's stories (and their series isn't out yet).

Technical diving can work around this by having a tank of something like 97% helium and 3% oxygen so that when it's compressed to 6 atm, the absolute partial pressures are 5.8 atm helium and 0.2 atm oxygen. The helium has no physiological effect and the oxygen is at a happy level. But if you try to breathe that same tank at 10m (2atm), there's only 0.06atm of oxygen and you suffocate. (Also you won't have any out-of-breath/suffocation reflex, that's driven by high blood carbon dioxide and you're still breathing out fine)

Yeah nice try rear end in a top hat. "Here, strap on this tank of 97% helium", then your victim floats into outer space

Unrelated, but there was another story I saw on these forums ages ago. Ted the Caver. Very much a work of fiction, but super eerie iirc.

Edit: Angelfire still exists. This might suck now idk. It was big in the simpler times of the internet where we were starved for content and everything seemed real.

I think that video is sincerely educational though. It'll just happen to end up with folks jerkin to it.

Isn't it just the "eXtReMe" mindset? Like people hanging off of ledges for fun, going into holes for fun or climbing mountains where 100 others died etc? Like, that guy Donald Cerrone who was posted on the previous pages isn't just into Cavediving, he's also into professional MMA, bullriding, motorcycles and just generally anything that gives adrenaline

I think there's two separate things here. There's very little adrenaline involved with scuba diving or rock climbing or mountaineering. It's more of an involved technical process with lots of thought at each step. I mean if you screw something up your adrenaline will shoot up, but that's the scary part, that's not what you're there for. Activities like that are much different than just a 10 second blast of high intensity adrenaline like bullriding.

Not the greatest book, but if you are in the mood for more caving, this is the story of 2 groups trying to prove their cave is the deepest on Earth.

The idea of squeezing downward for weeks, only to have to have the energy for the weeks long ascent is beyond me. Just reading this thread is setting off something deep in my brain telling me “never go in a cave, you idiot”.
