lol brode’s been excusing away the card unlocking issues because nexus events were coming and were going to be a fun new way to get cards!

nexus events are of course just a stapled on gacha

those are of course worst case numbers, the average will be around half of that which is still obscene

this poo poo is dead on arrival and that’s sad because beneath the slimy monetization there’s a really fun little game

so one card, jane, is exclusive to this nexus 'event' and won't enter the pool to be obtainable via collection level for at least a month, but hey there's a guaranteed 4-star reward every ten pulls at the gacha! what's a 4-star reward? who fuckin knows, that parlance ain't used anywhere else in the game and the ? doesn't tell you.

maybe a 4-star reward is a card! makes sense right, you have to buy the $40 bundle of gold to have enough to do ten pulls if you didn't have any gold laying around, so yea a card!

lol nope

o also the card you get for buying the monthly season pass is exclusive to that purchase for that month and the following month, so if you want the meta-defining wave card from last season you still have to wait till august before you even have a chance at getting it randomly from collection level rewards

I feel a little schadenfreude right now. I know betas are largely demos at this point, but the devs for this game made no attempt to appear to be interested in addressing beta tester feedback. If the game crashes and burns because they dug too greedily, I chose to simply think that is Very Funny.

they've been ignoring all feedback regarding progression and monetization this entire time in the official discord

the admin went on a comment deleting and banning spree earlier in the ask-the-devs channel as well lol

ben brode is a psychopath

for those of you who haven't played snap, fast upgrades are literally a trap that wastes new players' credits. they allow you to upgrade a card without using boosters, but it costs double the credits that upgrade would normally cost, and once you're beyond the first couple days of playing you become heavily limited by credits after the initial deluge while boosters just keep stacking up as you play

the snap reddit is on fire and multiple streamers/youtubers for the game have already put up videos stating that they're done with it

it's terrible for people who haven't managed to catch the deck defining cards they want to use too, which becomes an increasing problem as you move up the card pools. they also keep nerfing all the good pool 1 cards lol

snap is a super fun game with a profoundly awful progression/monetization system that is going to kill it

they've been hyping "Nexus Events" for over a month now and they aren't even events, just a literal loving gacha

Exactly. You went into the game expecting a completely different type of game, even though Brode was clear and explicit from the start that he wanted to replicate that middle school experience that you say you hated. So it’s weird you did that.

As an update, I’m now playing with humans pretty much all the time and having a great one, got Ka Zar, unlocking a bunch of cards, introduced it to a bunch of mates (by explaining to them that it shouldn’t be approached like a ccg like you did). Still not looking up cards that I might never unlock, just enjoying discovering cards as I encounter them. Unlocking them at a pretty good clip too.

If you want to play the game, just enjoy the mystery and stop spoilering yourself, I have no idea why you want to torture yourself and I have double no idea why you’d want to try and convince me that I’m not having “properly real” fun when I am. What are you trying to accomplish and why?

You should really re-read your post and understand how much of a gross hate filled joyless beancounter you come off as, and really interrogate why you choose to represent yourself like that because it isn’t a good look.

if this is a bit it’s a good one tbh

if it isn’t idk condolences

Unless things have changed in the past ~6 weeks or so that I hadn't been playing you're never actually out of bot tier, you just get fewer of them and the ones you do get swing wildly between winning via cheating and doing blatant misplays to give you the win.

As to retreating, no most people aren't accustomed to the Snap metagame and treat it like Hearthstone or Magic. Snap plays a lot like a casino card game ala poker in that you are (Should be) more concerned with your cube bankroll than whether you win any given hand, and against humans the game's real depth is in the snap mechanic.

Snapping/cubes are the underlying genius of the game, it tickles the brain just like real gambling.

Regarding the cards you never draw earlier than some turn (most obviously America, but I've seen a few Domino around too), where are they supposed to be within your deck? I've had America be destroyed by cards that destroy the top card of my deck sometimes so I wonder how that works

To use American Chavez as an example, she’s shuffled into your deck same as every card, but cannot be naturally drawn before turn six. What this looks like mechanically is that say on turn two Chavez is on top and would be drawn, the game instead draws the card beneath her and she stays on top, staying on top until either turn six when her card text allows her to be drawn naturally, or when another effect in game pulls her. You can go an entire game with Chavez being the top card on your deck until turn six, just drawing the card under her each turn.

Because of how this works your Chavez will get eaten more consistently by effects like Yondu destroying your top card.
