Why absolutely gently caress that? Seems a pretty sensible idea to me, and it's not like it's exploitative to give tourists a cheaper option. I think.

Nah, AirBnBs just massively distort the rental market in a way I'm not comfortable with during a massive rental crisis. Plus, I have no interest in catering to strangers, by all accounts from people I know who've done it you just end up with a bunch of Germans leaving you lovely reviews because you didn't make them poached eggs in the morning.

The approach that study takes is certainly an interesting one.

The TLDR is basically that they worked out a likely tipping point for deforestation beyond which the biosphere is irrevocably hosed. Then they set up a simulation of human technological advancement, using energy generation as a metric, to see how fast we're likely to reach the point where colonisation of other planets in the solar system is possible. They ran the simulation over and over, and in 90% of runs we hit biosphere collapse before we hit colony ships. The idea that we might stop deforestation in the next 20-40 years was not part of the parameters of the study. Make of that what you will.

It's a bit of a spherical cow simplification, but in a world where all historical examples of cows have already been demonstrated to be perfectly spherical

Sanctions, quite possibly.

imo it's kind of a shame that the EU can't decide beforehand on a schedule of sanctions that will apply if the UK does or doesn't do X, and then when the Tories force their hand by doing X² they can just say "loving told you so". But of course, the EU is terminally decorum-poisoned and addicted to looking like the good guy ( at least when dealing with constituent member and ex-member states)
