Gazelle report: Flew for a really long time, blew up three of these the enemy had. Two were unaware, the third engaged me, but missed:  Snuck into the back of the city to rescue the downed VIP, ultimately got a hold of him and managed not to be murdered by enemy tanks watching over the city, flew home. VIP rescued, Gazelle did barrel rolls, mission success. ATGM Stryker taking a shot at me before I reset and killed it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVHEJLBBQi0 A lot of commuting; objective was a bit over 100 km away by way the crow flies, and we had to fly in the valleys to stay away from SAMs and fighters, so the slow Gazelle was a hike (cruises around 200-220 kph on flat terrain, much less when climbing mountains).

Follow up to After Action Report: Wow, what a welcome. The VIP was so thrilled by their historic rescue and subsequent Gazelle double barrel roll airshow welcome back to Sochi that they organized an impromptu ceremony.  I was even presented with an award! I'm not entirely sure how much the value is, but hopefully it's a decent little nest egg?  I will try to get family passes for the Hind crews and ground controller crews who ensured I was escorted to and from the rescue zone, but no promises. Everyone knows a person, you know?

Good news: If we just make sure to have giant, unarmed airplanes worth a gazillion dollars each in every mission, we can always underwrite fratricide.

The court martial sketches have been released, and I now understand that maybe there were equipment problems. This may explain why the pilot who committed the fratricide was heard yelling about how many reds he shot down that day, saying "goddamn, look at all these reds, they're filling the sky, Fox-1"
