It's finally here. Yet another 'it's coming home' cup.

it's not coming home

The groups:

Good teams and how they'll lose:
  • Netherlands won the previous tournament and have a goalscoring machine in Vivianne Miedema but they lost their coach to England

  • England have a really good squad with lots of depth but it's England so they'll probably bottle it somewhere

  • France is really strong but it's also a combination of an ongoing internal conflict and a really unpopular coach who dropped Lyon players just because she felt like it

  • Sweden won the silver medal at the Olympics last year and are probably the most solid European team out there right now

  • Spain looked really good until their best player (and the Ballon d'Or 2021 winner) Alexia Putellas tore her ACL a day before the tournament

Also, Portugal is here since Russia got kicked out of the tournament, Austria will probably beat England in the opener, Norway's Ada Hegerberg is back and she won the Champions League this year, lots of fun guaranteed.

Things to read and listen to:
Guardian did a really good guide on all the players

well you see thinking a womens game can draw 37,000 is a bit much, so instead we've put games at leigh sports village and the manchester city academy which can hold a more reasonably expected crowd of 8,100 and 4,700

It really stinks that Putellas tore her ACL. Spain has improved by leaps and bounds over the last few years, and they could have definitely made some noise. And I'm glad Hegerberg is back, but it would have been even better if she'd won her fight with the Norwegian FA.

The French are still gonna walk this, though.

It's rough. Denmark forfeited a game in their WC qualifiers because of a pay dispute and then lost the playoffs.

There are quite a lot non-professional players in this tournament.

Currently pregaming tonights match by watching the womens U-19 Euros semi final between Norway and France. There's some good talent brewing in the wings.

Well - decent showing from the Lionesses but did not think they would be so affected by playing at home. Hopefully they’ll settle down against the stronger Norwegians.

UEFA's sportocrats should be defenestrated. This particular time, it should be for holding a ton of games in 7000 and 12000 seat venues.

Their explanation is that the venues were chosen 5 years ago but that's still bullshit.

Even without the injuries, they didn't look like they could handle Sweden. Roord had to play them out of their own corner at times.
