The scarlet letter was her passport into regions where other women dared not tread. Shame, Despair, Solitude! These had been her teachers, stern and wild ones, and they had made her strong, but taught her much amiss.

In todays update, we learn the power of return fire!

With both Mindfraggers and mist Sentials complete, it's time to pick some more research - as well as the previous options, we can now get stuff on the factions.

We also have a few new weapons we can reverse engineer.

The base will need a new project as well.

Finally, pretty much all of our soldiers have upgrades they can purchase!

Just a scan site. These were the only missions.

I think it's a joke about how it's not actually that relevant for the early game. I know further on that combat with the other factions can occur and that the aliens pick up weapons as well.

I get the feeling that training facilities really need to be in a dedicated base to be relevant, when is it reasonable to make an acquisition like that?

The text said any soldier on the base gets like, 4xp per hour per training base, so I would assume they have to be on the base - but they still get the XP even if they're assigned to the skyranger, when they're not on a mission.

I stand corrected, return fire is "pretty good".

(I'm also a bit annoyed by the reload mechanic, our soldier can only have a maximum of two magazines ready to go? And even then only if they decide not to have a sidearm?)

I meant more in their character, I think Synedrion is the only one that provides multiple routes to take them.

Its a weight/strenght problem if I remember correctly. I certainly remember carrying around more than two half clips. How likely is it that I'll go through a whole clip in a fight anyway, big money saver.

SIGSEGV

Oh I mean mostly I'm annoyed that a soldier wearing fancy faction branded armor doesn't have a basic rig to have like 6 mags ready to go and a bunch of spares in the backpack. I get that the much vaunted realism that gamers apparently crave is very variably a good thing in games, it just annoys me here because it's making me make a choice for which there's only one reasonable answer and which no commander would reasonably have to make.

I mean I know AI is hard but goddamn those are some loving dumb enemies. You'd think the AI would figure out not to keep targetting the one guy you KNOW has Return Fire, but nope! (it's also prob biased towards going after already-injured chars, but still!)

SIGSEGV
Nov 4, 2010

Making a very very good AI isn't hard, making on that isn't infuriating or doesn't feel like it's cheating is another thing, for example, in Supreme Commander, during the beta, the devs had to stop the AI from firing long range missiles at mass points (static resourcing points) through the fog of war because players complained it shouldn't know things were there, even as they did the same to the AI. Here, an AI that would build a perfect image of all that you can do and would mega murder your face by tossing grenades over terrain would be very annoying to deal with.

Two major cutscenes this time, and a couple of profitable salvage missions.

We have another good batch of level ups availible!

We need our next research project soonish, as well as a major choice in operations.

Do we Try and help the Disciples of Anu base?
Do we help THE PURE?
Do we raid the New Jerico base to steal their aircraft?

This is a lot to do with only a few soldiers! come on game, give me more recruits!
