I don't get scared by movies a lot, but that big abduction scene really hosed me up. I used to be really afraid of alien abductions as a kid and this movie triggered that old fear in a way other alien movies didn't.

So a balloon popping triggers Gordy's attack and then a balloon popping defeats Jean Jacket. I get that they're related, but it doesn't seem quite like foreshadowing since they have opposite effects. Also why did they name Jean Jacket after a horse Em wasn't allowed to train?
