We've seen enough fighting.

Neither side want to fight – though we know it would go badly for the Drauven.

This has the effect of pulling a card from the deck. Diplomacy works!

Ah yes, these two hate each other – though you'd never know it for all the time they spend together.

Who was that speaking? God? The dead woman? Stilla?

This is why we have been hording Legacy Points. Three cards cancelled.

We secure the site while Ayloth trecks across the world.

He's nearly there.

The Thryxl are in trouble.

We close in.

Ayloth is nice an confident. End of the last campaign I was in a rough state, this time I'm hellishly strong and with only a few major injuries and two full teams.

If they don't know about us now, they are in for a major surprise!

Let's do this.

There are a lot of them, but I would be insulted by anything less.

I plan on limiting their effects by hiding in the house and using the door for cover.

First I need to clear the house – with FIRE!

That's one ugly wall of foes.

We tank their attacks.

Ayloth does his thing.

We can shoot out the door.

So we take out the Scorier.

This is where my plan comes apart a bit – I forget that Ayloth leaps on his guardian!

He gets two strikes.

He takes a hit.

Then gets put into stasis.

This is easily cleared and he's back in business.

We get some more hits in, and take down a Thrusk.

Of course, this means plan hide has been replaced with plan charge.

The Drathix is the next target.

I hate these poison spewing things.

A little bit of poison doesn't slow Ayloth down.

There we go! Threat removed.

I love ignite.

We take down their action economy.

Ayloth does the same.

He picks up a mindworm as the entire enemy force focuses on him.

Of course, that means they have to close in on him. Which is a spectacularly bad idea!

He gets put in statis for a second time.

The others move up.

Fire is so much fun.

Elsee does her part as well.

She frees Ayloth who goes on as if nothing has happened.

Slicing and dicing!

Impaling. Generally fun things.

He does take another hit.

Ignite then fire leash deals with this Seeker.

Elsee deals with the Bard.

I switch to bows for the Nightmare.

Oh great, another one of these things.

The old one two deals with it.

The Nightmare is finished.

Then it's just the normal hunting down of the hiding Dweaver.

That's a level for Molis.

5 Area damage? Sign me up!

Thalwea gets more stunt chance.

After the battle we start to look for that clue.

Thalwea goes looking for Mothman in the creepy cellar.

Oh, it's backstory time!

Mothmans's dads hairstyle is an interesting choice.

So you were exploring where you shouldn't. Seems to be a lot of that going around.

I wonder how long he was in there?

Speak for yourself!

He has something of a rough return to reality.

Let me guess, your the reason the world even ha Thryxl in it.

Oh great, bored immortal bring about the end of the world.

Thalwea takes the news poorly.

She leaves him at home in the dark.

Upstairs they have had a breakthrough.

We have the info.

Time to move. The Thryxl are coming.

Nightmares are stronger now.

Here they come!

A team rushes to the tower while B team go to shore up the defences.

We have just enough LP to cancel this card.

The Thryxl arrive, but we can make it to the tower before they break our defences.

We arrive at the slightly disappointing looking tower.

One last breath before the assault.

Next time we end this.

Eluna and the Moth is one of the only—if not the only— stock Wyldermyth campaigns where half your heroes don’t age out by the end of five chapters. So while the early and midgame are brutal, you’re allowed to actually have near-max heroes en mass by the end. It’s an interesting bit of design, and I think it really helps given the kinda lunacy Thrixl regularly bring to the table.

WizardOfWhispers

And here comes endgame! This team has really come together into a wrecking ball - if you can get heroes with proper experience and upgrades, they can really put out a lot of pain. I personally find Thrixl tend towards weird abilities, with greater access to magic attacks, instead of the stats that make stuff like Morthagi really dangerous. This makes them dangerous early, and it's really the swarms later that start causing problems. But this campaign has been very fun to watch - and having fun antics with A Team in the main story and the chaos of B Team has been a real treat.

The first two chapters of this campaign are really rough - the weird objectives and timer make it really hard to actually get items and prepare for things. The sixth unlockable campaign - Sunswallower's Wake - plus the tutorial Gorgon campaign both only have three chapters so you get to rely more on a core set of heroes. This campaign has fewer years pass in between chapters - I really like the change of pace and how it lets the heroes really stick around more.

In fact, there's an achievement for having your four starting characters and Elsee all alive and active at the end.

Which annoyingly I couldn't get because my hunter (who starts out oldest) retired in chapter 5.

There is some pre battle reminiscing.

There is still a bit of bad blood over Molis it seems.

Our heroes ready themsevles to knock on the door.

In the grand tradition on adventuring parties, they are defeated by a simple locked door. With the bar on this side an all!

Time to get the mages on it.

This is not our worst idea.

Here goes nothing.

Chaylines dignity does not remain intact.

I wonder if it was keyed to mages?

So, do we rush in, or stealth?

Wait, the game had special dialogue for if the love interest was for both girls and also had the wolf transformation. Holy poo poo.

Wait, is that a coincidence? I also flipped on my first run of this, but I don't remember what was said.

Plus, the younger girl could also be a coward or something. Sometimes the game will write dialogue that way. It's crazy how much random character traits can influence dialogue.

Like, some of the "comedy" bits check to see if a person's highest trait is Comedian, or they'll say something else, but other events will check to see which party member is the most funny, and then that character will make a joke. So even if you have a party of morose sad sacks, one of them is, comparatively, the funny one. I deeply love that they thread it both ways, because it goes a long way to making characters feel well rounded.

I haven't checked but I think this one's a coincidence and the point she's making is that after all they've been through she can't believe she used to be scared of some normal-rear end wolves.

There are other events that check for this sort of thing though, so it's not out of the question. There's one (that is used for the tutorial for creating your own events) that has a character lighting a fire. And if they have the fire transform, they'll just light it with their fire hand. And if they have the fire chicken, they'll use that instead.

I'm always sad that only the visual effects modders really got into modding for this game. If I were decent at programming, I would cheerfully write an entire campaign of events.

I really badly want full campaigns to be a thing. If I were to knuckle under and make one, do you think anyone else would follow suit?

There's already one! I haven't played it myself yet but Boojum's quality is pretty good.

The main thing getting in the way of full campaign mods is that it's a lot of work. Making story events isn't hugely complicated, but it is fiddly in a way that drawing a bunch of hairstyles and armour sets just isn't. I'd have done more of my own but I've been in a bit of a creative slump lately - I've got a mod that adds children to the game half-done where all the functional bits are ready but I just can't get through the block of drawing outfits and writing events.

Oooooh, that's got to be fairly recent. Thank you. This has made my day. Something to check out after FE Engage.

Me, I can do written stuff fairly easily, but programming is another story, and, if I'm being honest with myself, the Lion's share of the work.

I don't know about that tutorial events but there are other events around starting fires and they will comment on those two helping or the character being eerily good at starting fires (if they have the raider trait)

Yeah this game is pretty great.

We charge in. Of course we do.

Those are some large looking monster.

We start clearing out the Thrusks.

Oh look, a bard!

It's a telling sign that I'm not worried by this horde of enemies.

Molis takes down the bard.

A seeker advances into death.

Chayline drags fire through their lines.

I think that was a Thrusk. It just kinda exploded there.

We take some poison damage from the Drathix.

Ayloth dances forward.

Then he blocks a seeker and kills it on the counter attack.

The same thing to the Drathix.

We start work on the Dunnaveer.

We need to clear the route to it first though!

We take the Drathix down.

This Dweaver teleports to its death.

Elsee picks up a mindworm.

The nightmares do not live up to their names....

Molis gets the first hit in – that's a lot of armour, but she does massive damage.

Thalwea one shots a bard.

Ayloth continues his cleanup.

I continue my love of fire.

We're properly into cleanup now.

That's the big problem dealt with.

A back door smashes open and a horde of seekers pours out. Oh No.

Murder time.

Now it's just a matter of hunting down the Dweavers.

Molis is max level.

Thalwea feels weakest, so I laden her down with goodies.

Victory, but that's only the first stage.

Maybe invite her round for some drinks?

Oh yeah, we can use Mothman as bait!

We're totally sealing him in there as well.

Time to ready for action.

Another card is added to their deck.

It's nice to have a defensible position.

Mothman makes his own preperations.

We get a pile of materials.

And one last chance to gear up....

I say make sure our main team all has at least Tier 2 equipment, then fill in on your favorites or weakest links as you see fit. This fight to clear out the tower and then the prep for the final battle does a lot to add to the tension - it's a solid calm before the storm.

The final preparations are complete. Lets light the beacon of Mothmans annoyingness!

I'm much more confident than the characters – though this will be a hard fight.

Here comes the first wave.

No Dragons! This is specifically a Dragon free zone!

Make that all Thryxl in general.

An Unresting one wanders in to close.

Fire an arrows solve a lot of problems.

I'm not going to show every reinforcement card, just know that every turn something like this happens – and we need to survive for 5 turns.

I think this will be the easy part of the mission.

Hi new friend!

Okay, maybe we're a bit bunched up.

It won't be doing that again.

We're still in a good state, even if I do lose some actions clearing the mindworms.

Monsters are coming in from all sides.

And dying in droves.

Five turns fly by, the Queen of Light arrives and the mission changes.

I need to clear a path.

And keep Mothman safe.

The hordes seem endless. Because they are.

Great, there is another Drathix.

This cheeky git tries to teleport past us.

We try and kill the Drathix.

But not before it poisons us.

The Thryxl queen is not coming to us, so I need to push out.

There she is.

Bloody magic suprematists. Looking down on us mortals.

Her sister has been dead for years, time to deal with the monster in its.... flesh?

I would like to thank everyone on the battlefield for pausing while that conversation happened.

Now it's back to the endless killing!

Okay this is not going to be good!

We inch closer over the bodies of our foes.

She's finally in sight.

Ayloth gets the first hit in.

Chayline is now alone holding the door.

She takes a solid hit.

And then put into stasis, which is not a good thing for me!

Elsee stabs Molis. I still have control on my turns, but she can be compelled to attack us on their turn.

Ayloth is the master of area control.

Now your just being annoying!

Thalwea takes a hit as their numbers keep on increasing.

The more irritated Ecthis is, the further forwards she moves.

We're getting to her!

Get in the tower!

That 5 damage AOE comes into effect. It's to less Nightmares to worry about!

We keep hitting her.

With Chayline pinned, the first Thryxl penetrates into the tower.

We need to keep her moving.

Mothman is starting to get swarmed.

Get in already!

Molis lands the final hit.

And forces her across the threshold.

Mothman is up!

The penny finally drops that this is a trap.

A magical vortex sucks everyone into the tower.

Reality begins to warp as two immensely powerful magical beings begin to fight.

Our heroes have one job.

At some point during the mass moves, Thalwea takes a hit. Shen is forced to withdraw from the fight.

Everyone else. Rip and Tear, 'til your done.

Ayloth calls this a target rich environment.

Those blue squares seem to damage to Thryxl.

Elsees flamethrower gets me an achivement!

The Thrxyl charge forwards and keel over in the Anathema zone.

We still need to keep Mothman safe.

Then it's on to the door!

Oh quit it!

They keep dying without me hitting them, which is nice.

Molis deals with the Drathix.

The room is looking clear, and the door is in sight.

Molis is the first to step into the light.

Everyone else soon follows after.

One last look back.

Before the door is sealed.

And with that the threat has been defeated.

Time passes in relative quiet.

Their lives pass quietly.

But what of the tower?

Two immortals trapped together for all eternity.

Though for how long?

Of course he's flirting with her.

Again, check their shadows.

It's worth remebering that Ecthis is in many ways a victim herslef, she never asked to be made into this.

I think they will be okay.

We have bought the world over a century of peace.

Two more legends are added to the roster.

And with that I think brings my lets play to an end, we've done two campaigns and six months of story, and I'm feeling the urge to do something fresh. Hopefully you've enjoyed this as much as I have, and anyone who wants to use this thread to tell their own story is more than welcome.

Now I've got a Crusader Kings 3 OP to finish off......

Thanks for LPing this game, Grey Hunter! It's a good note to end things off on, all our heroes making it through to the end. They made for some good stories. Stilla and Zigalia were probably my favorite duo, and Ayloth looked like a terror in combat. Both campaigns were good, but the second one felt like an big improvement over the first overall.

What Wildermyth does very well is end its stories with a melancholic note. The Mothman doesn't deserve to be trapped in like that, and as said Eluna did not choose to become what she is now.
