5-3 and 7-2 in my first two drafts of the set. First one was 5 color domain big green stompy, no big bomb rares but lots of multicolor uncommon bodies to throw. I found that a lot of green commons out of reach of the common kill spells at 4+ toughness, but there's a lot of little guys and disruption spells to stall the board. With the relative rarity of trample, it was hard to push through in most my games, but all the domain cards seemed super strong and synergistic so long as the tapped duo lands are prioritized.

Draft two opened with the mythic hydra dragon, which is a haste flying Rx x/x dragon, which is probably one of the mightiest bombs in this set. RW was open after that, and the super synergistic 2 or 3 color low cost legendaries are absolute beasts in this set. I did primary R/W with splashing U/G for kickers and domain, and it felt very easy to go wide and aggressive, since it's the first day of the set and everyone's drafting the durdly slow stuff with bad manabases. It was also easy to stall the board with my flood of guys, there's very few board wipes going around this set and the closest I saw was a single karn's Sylex that didn't do much at all.

Anyway, draft was fun, this is my first set where I feel confident enough to eyeball what's strong in a pack without tools after a year of using MTGA Assistant and checking 17lands constantly. If you're not 1000% confident in drafting I highly recommend doing that, it's way easier to think about synergies and strengths when you can read other peoples thoughts and check card winrates while you're drafting.

Also, I encountered minor bugs during the draft and by god I expect to be fully recompensed for my gold spent wizards :colbert:

What were the bugs? And if you file a ticket for the draft, it is very likely you will be given your gold back for maximum +EV.

I'm aware, in both drafts if I dragged a card to my selection pile, the card sometimes vanished. It still picked it, but I couldn't mouse over it or see it in my pile, so I had to by vague memory for some stuff.

I actually run a tergrid commander deck that i've been playing with and tinkering with for about a year, it's a ton of fun and has been my go to deck for just playing and having fun in this game. It's just a midrangey value pile, and tergrid is amazing since she's a good sized, recurring threat whom makes all your sacrifice and discard effects have tremendous value. I find all sorts of wins, depending on my draw, from quick runaway games where I destroy the enemy hand and leave them topdecking early, mid-range grindfests where we're both slamming value on the board and I'm aiming for the discard into my board turnaround, and the stupid long topdeck grindfests where I'm hoping to use a mana advantage to reanimate my board while knocking them with the lantern side of Tergrid as much as possible.

It's got hard counters and tough matchups, but it gives me that sick glee that you only find when you're actively stealing the enemy cards and rubbing your grubby little virtual fingers all over them, and it'll give as much as it takes.

Here's the deck I use, there's a ton of cards here that you can substitute for something you either own or isn't a wildcard. The mainstay most important cards are to have either/or of Phyrexian Arena/Black Market Connections, and the three game winner creatures of Nighthawk Scavenger, Westgate Regent, and Graveyard Trespasser. These cards have won me more Hbrawl games then I can count, and are absolute champs in any black Hbrawl decks you might build.

Yeah I just did a timmy game where drew 5 cards and hit for 21 hasty damage before my opponent got to take a turn

It's probably the most busted deck

Grixis is looking mighty powerful this go around. I just trophied by riding 3x sibling rivalry and one of every sac engine I could find, and it's insanely good this set. Everyones got big creatures, there's a ton of good sac outlets, and there's an absolute ton of cantrips to play with.

I keep thinking about the discussion of "auto-includes" in historic brawl. With the addition of Mishra's Bauble, does that become an auto-include in every deck? The logic in constructed is each Bauble shaves a card off the 60 (so you'd be playing with 56 instead of 60 if you have 4 Baubles). In 100 card singleton, does that matter that much? I feel dumb asking if a free cantrip is an auto-include, but I am dumb so

It depends, the role of a free cantrip would be to shave a cardslot out of your deck, bringing you closer to "the good stuff" and making it more consistent to draw them. The big difference is that a 60 card deck is probably trying to draw something it has 4x of, out of a 60 card deck, and running 4x free cantrips makes it go from 4/60 to 4/56, while brawl only runs the one cantrip and the one specific card, so it goes from a 1/100 draw to a 1/99 draw.

So the brawl impact is much lower, it's not an autoinclude but it's okay for filling up a slot if you can't think of anything else you want.

My mainstay brawl deck has been a UB scarab god deck I built around the ideas of reanimating ETB creatures and stealing the opponents cards to use against them. It's about 50/50 color split and leans into counterspells and single target destroy effects because they're the best tools the colors have to actually reach a stable boardstate without getting their poo poo kicked in. I call it my grubby hands deck and it's quite fun to pilot, with lots of cool decisions and lots of chances to play with the opponents toys. Give it a shot if you're interested in the idea, and if you're short on rares for making it, you can probably afford to just cut 2-3 cards and just put in lands, because I tend to run a little light compared to other brawl decklists I see around.

I had the oddest draft. I was putting together a r/w draft and both colors evaporated for pack 3. And I don’t mean slowed to a trickle, I mean I didn’t open, get passed, or see a single card of either color over about 120 cards. I’ve been hosed by rng before, but never quite like this.
