Well, remind them that "freedom" isn't "forty types of cereal", it's actually "not having to worry about where your next bowl of cereal is coming from". And that doesn't mean "nationalising cereal", it means "you have a good enough income to afford your own cereal, and aren't getting it stolen by Shell". And don't lose your cool. Anyway, I'm off to watch one of the dragon shows on my big flatscreen TV.

Maybe I’m stuck in doom-mongering mode, but I really think they’re quite content to ride this out and see just how far they can push it without being forced to save people. Tories will privately admit to being astonished whenever they turn the ratchet at how much poo poo people will put up with. The internal memos go round saying "if we cut this, privatise that, destroy the other, there will be riots". And then when there's crickets instead, pfft. Could never be a politician: swap me out for Thatcher, and say I did 1% of the damage. You wouldn't need to drag me into the street and beat me to death, as I would deserve, because I would have already flung myself off a cliff in shame.

MourningBalls (it's yours for free, Private Eye) immediately becoming its own genre. The weird signage and implications behind it - what is there and what is left off - the bike-rack and the condom machine thing being prime examples - are the condoms not being dispensed because the company that refills the machine isn't bothering (probably one of the real reasons, and that has implications of its own), or are they not dispensing because it's disrespectful to use a condom during a period of mourning (as it seems to imply)? You can't put your bike here, presumably because we don't have anyone maintaining it for now. But if you do put your bike here we might have someone remove it, so something is being done. And removing the bike is some sort of punishment, but only if we feel like it? It's all very  where the craziness becomes fractal.

I'm in no way one to talk and yes this is massively hypocritical of me, but how little must you have going on to queue for days to go look at the coffin of someone who didn't care if you lived or died. You're not impressing your grandchildren with this story! At least if you're going somewhere to look at things, go to any museum, it'd be literally more interesting, engaging and meaningful to your life.
