The Perfect Element posted:People keep posting stuff about this saga and I have literally no idea who this person is or why I should care about her lovely opinions. If you're finding yourself assuming any kind of sympathy from looking at her profile pic, I'd recommend dipping briefly into her tiktok for context. Not only does she have terminal middle aged white person on tiktok disease, her entire shtick is rage and bile, and then gets upset and defensive when people turn the same on her, only with good cause. She got into a fight with babble (a good leftist) over it and came out of it having decided that because the left were mean to her, the entire political ideology has to be written off and they're all antisemitic unfortunately. I wouldn't call it 'terminally' online, but it is certainly a very online problem.

40 is definitely the 'find out' counterpart to the 'gently caress around' part of your 20s and early 30s in terms of health. Mostly because +40 is about the age that you stop being as shocked when you hear of people who never exercise and have bad diets having heart attacks. And yes, I realise my avatar change is apt to make this point.

Hungry posted:"Chav" was a poo poo word, terrible mouthful, ugly sound. I'm always interested (from a linguistic standpoint) in the point at which certain words go from legitimate usage to becoming slurs. And to make it absolutely clear, NOT to moralise over if we shouldn't, but just trying to understand the mechanism of the turning point in certain cases. I'm thinking particularly in light of Lizzo unknowingly using the word spastic. At one point in the UK there was a charity called the spastic society. Medical textbooks used it to describe a condition, or at least what at the time they understood as one condition. And then it seems like a bunch of kids started using it as an insult for anyone being uncoordinated as a cruel jibe, and then the word becomes tarnished by that. Again, not saying the tarnishing is wrong. Maybe this is an autism thing but I don't really understand the mechanism by which it goes from 'some kids are using a legit disability word as an insult' to 'the word is bad' rather than 'the kids using it that way are bad.' Maybe most people just don't think about it that much and just see "word is now bad." Like when a bunch of alt righters decided to tell everyone that the ok gesture and pepe were secret alt right codes, and everyone bought it and now they kind of are?

I do wonder how the public (not the press) would react if a Labour candidate did just say "Yeah, we'll accept an SNP alliance if it'll help get rid of those blue twats." I mean when Labour vehemently deny it the press still end up running headlines about BRITAIN RUN FROM SCOTLAND, ENGLAND UNDER THE HEEL OF THE PERFIDIOUS SCOT, HELP HELP. Yes, imagine being part of a union where one country tells the other 3 what to do regardless of what they want or need. Just imagine how much that would suck.

Jesus loving Christ this country is hosed. Apologies for the vent. Got a letter from the DWP last week dated 30th of June saying that a tribunal is to be held on the first available date after the 14th July. So naturally, it now being September, I poo poo myself and assumed the DWP had 'lost' my letter in the post so that I'd miss the tribunal and have wasted the last year or so. I dug through all the correspondance until I found the right letter, and called them. The woman on the other end sounded very tired and said she'd check how long the average wait is for a hearing. It's 190 weeks. Just over 3½ loving years. I checked she said 190. I checked she said weeks and not days. Now admittedly, this is for Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit, and maybe they're prioritising PiP / ESA / UC appeals, but 3 loving years? for the sake of £20 or so a week to help me get physio? I can only imagine that when I finally reach the tribunal I'll be asked if I imagine myself disabled when I masturbate. I can at least confidently say I have been living as a disabled person for the previous two years.
