IDK if I can sum up what happens to you in your 30s and obviously it's not the same for everybody but one thing that's happened for me is that I've gone from hating folk music at the start of my 30s to thinking it loving slaps now in my late 30s.

In some sense the left needs more bastards - just the right kind of bastards, I guess. If he's good at his job and him being in his position is not causing impediments or injustice against those below him then it's probably a good thing he's in the position despite lovely views he holds...

But if people (particularly vulnerable minorities) within his organisation are saying that him being in his position *is* furthering injustice/inequality etc., acting from a position of good faith, they should be listened to.

Working out who's acting in good faith isn't always straightforward, and the person in a high-up position may genuinely be fantastic at the most important aspects of their job (in this case advocating for the interests of the workers) and it's all just tricky as gently caress. Also it's more of an issue the more somebody in such a position holds actual, abusable power over the people "below" them. You'd *like* to think that a union is going to be one of the most robustly democratic institutions we have left and so there should be strong safeguards against abusing what power but I know that's certainly not true of all unions.

I'd say the best path lays *somewhere* in between "give him a pass for being a nazi because he's good on the telly" and "anybody who has ever had an impure thought in their head should be excluded from daily life and sent to the gulag" but figuring out exactly where the line is, is not easy.

One thing's for sure though, we don't need to listen to Liberal dickheads like Femi and Supertanskiii about this, or anything else. They can get in the loving sea, now and forever.

I too am not 100% on this (I mean in terms of understanding).

When people say to me stuff like no one under the age of 18 should get these things, what I have gleaned mostly from here (and stand to be corrected!) and say to them - well to the ones who are willing to have a proper discussion anyway - is:
"As I understand it, if you go through puberty in your outward body, then irreversible physiological changes occur. However, if you take puberty blockers and don't go through puberty at the 'usual' age, and then when you're 18 or whatever decide that actually you don't wish to transition, you stop taking the blockers and have puberty, albeit at a later age than most people, and with no adverse effects."

Is this understanding right?

That's also my understanding of it.

Just done a little reading and confirmed, yeah: They pause the production of estrogen/testosterone. There are different kinds that can work from 1 month to 1 year. They sometimes use them on cis children, as sometimes kids start puberty much earlier than normal and it's better to delay it til the "normal" time. They've been used for about 40 years for this purpose so they're known to be safe.

My understanding is that the way the UK government interacts with the monarchy is that they pretend the monarch isn't involved, except they are, often, but not expected to actually disagree with anything.

Is that correct?

Yeah basically. AIUI the monarch has power to reject any of the actions of Parliament etc. and they have to appoint the new PM etc. but if they actually exercised that power to overrule anything there'd be massive outrage.

Though the Queen and Charles have privately lobbied for politicians to change laws/not to change laws to benefit themselves, e.g. around tax rules etc. and there hasn't been uproar about that because we are a supremely cucked nation.

Mad poo poo really. Not terribly surprising, but inequality in the UK has obviously been worsening massively to the point where if things continue as they are, by the end of the decade the average British family would be better off living in Poland, a country which has famously had a massive exodus of working-age people when it joined the EU in 2004 and onwards - with over a million coming to the UK.

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of those Polish workers - and most of them are workers, aged 20-44 (see here: https://researchbriefings.files.parliament.uk/documents/CBP-7660/CBP-7660.pdf) - start to leave en masse. They may not all go back to Poland but there are other countries which would take them like Germany, where they'd have a much higher standard of living than in the UK. If the UK loses half a million Polish (and other European) workers, many of whom are doing lovely jobs that Brits, things are gonna get even more grim.

You should look into remortgaging right now (if you can find a provider still giving them out). The Canadian gov said ahead of time they'd be raising interest rates, but we still had 6 months to go on our mortgage... luckily the mortgage adviser we used rang us up and told us we could lock in an interest rate now ahead of the rise, which we did.

I think we paid about $4k in early repayment fees but we're locked in for 5 years at a really good rate.

I know mortgage providers in the UK have already put rates up but it *still* might be better to do it now if you think you're gonna be looking at 6+% and there are providers now offering 5.3%.

So yeah, just check out what your early repayment penalty is on your existing mortgage. Probably worth speaking to a mortgage adviser more generally.

Eh, it depends but you're probably not better off locking in at 5+% on the chance that your rate may be 6+% at some point in the next 5 years for a certain period of time, that seems like a recipe for serious overpayment due to unreasonable pessimism. But then again, Tories...

Well yeah you don't have to fix for 5 years. Might be worth fixing for 2 though. All I'm saying is, look at your options and do what's best depending on what you think the interest rate is going to go up to. That might include being worth paying an early repayment fee on your current mortgage, depending on what the differential is - don't necessarily just think "Whelp I'm locked into my current mortgage" because you're not really *that* locked in.

Or don't, whatever, I'm not your Dad.

Can't find it right now but I'm pretty sure actual end of isolation should be 8 days, based on the real time it takes for people to no longer be contagious.

E: found it https://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/063.nsf/eng/98097.html

quote:

After growing the virus, the researchers monitored how infectious the samples were. The researchers found that patient samples did not contain infectious material after eight days following the onset of symptoms. This means, that up until eight days, the patients can still spread the disease. After that point, patients are unlikely to spread the virus. However, these findings do not mean the virus that causes COVID-19 disappears after 8 days. The researchers found that the genetic material of the virus remained in the samples, but it was unable to grow and therefore should not infect others.

Before this research study, there was a lack of laboratory data to understand this very important factor in the spread of COVID-19.

5 days isolation advice was clearly (IMO) just completely unscientific and somebody saying "Hmm it would be good for the economy if we could reduce the 10 day isolation period... it's 5 now".
