nah, not really. priests leave all the time and there's a whole constellation of nonprofits, charities, and various religious organizations that would gladly take in someone with that experience. he might be persona non grata in the Catholic part of that space, but the people management skills are pretty transferrable and he'd definitely be able to land a gig somewhere

as for financially, he'd probably be looking at a sidegrade in the nonprofit world, but he could definitely go work HR for some company and be making 6 figures easy if he actually cared about his bank account. there is a whole clergy to corporate HR pipeline that he could funnel into as well.

that makes sense for priests/friars/nuns in the West, but I'm not sure you can transition to a cushy 6-figgy PMC gig in a 3rd tier Brazilian city. but yeah I imagine generally you wouldn't risk excommunication without some sort of second career in mind

Yeah, absolutely no idea about the non-West, but was more pointing out that yeah the masters or doctorate is gonna include a lot of specific religious instruction that isn't useful for employment outside the church, but unless they're a cloistered monk they're gonna have a lot of transferrable skills no matter where they work.

it's inadvisable cause it is a high risk sinuation. you may be denied the rank of catechumen until you move out for a while or get married.

Huh you're right, that doctrine states any new territory belongs to the diocese the expedition set out from and the bishop of Orlando claimed it because Apollo 11 launched from there. Looks like all those Catholics living on the moon no longer have anyone in the apostolic succession to perform sacraments. Their benighted fate is just more collateral caused by Frankie the Tankie's arrogance towards changing church doctrine.

the part in the new pope where the Franciscan guy gets voted in & starts giving away all the church's possessions & inviting immigrants to occupy the Vatican & consequently has to be assassinated is a fun watch. overall it kinda of sucks without jude law though.

if you take the episodes where flanders is a judgmental moralist who is all up in everyone's business because he can't stop won't stop worrying about whether he and everyone else are going to burn for all eternity, it's a very accurate comparison

When I was knocking on doors for Bernie in 2020 the uninterested Biden voters or even the occasional Republican that got on the VAN list somehow would send us on our way more or less politely. The only time I knocked on a door and had to deal with somebody red-faced and yelling was a man with a Mason symbol in his yard who ranted about how he was a Mason and the Masons were had been against tyranny and socialism for over 100 years.
