I remember a lot of criticism about Griner's decision to travel to Russia in the first place when she was arrested before the reason became clear. I believe the state department had already issued a travel advisory for Russia in January and she went in February for her Russian league? Not sure if its standard for athletes to ignore travel advisories but it does look like a very bad decision in hindsight.

If they can make some money in the off season to set themselves up to have a retirement date f course they are going to do that. It’s very common for WNBA players to work abroad off-season.
