Jeff saying "alright baka, let's talk" was the highlight of my night.

Disappointed the one black girl was voted out first as per usual (if going off strength only, I'm not sure how she drew the short straw compared to the two other women) but this was a fun start to the game. I liked that Owen tried to pretend to be stupid but got sick of his own tribe's stupidity and solved the brain teaser (and incorrectly at that!). Was also nice that the prisoner's dilemma thing has been adjusted so you see what the other players pick and aren't left wondering until you get to tribal, when the audience has forgotten about it.

Interesting that Mike's advantage/possible immunity wasn't discussed at tribal. Or more likely, was discussed but wasn't shown I guess.

Are we just gonna not touch how bonkers OP a 2-TC II is?

Or that it would've been the perfect time to get him out because there wasn't even the slightest hint of him wanting to use it?

I won't complain too hard he got me nice points for it but man baka is so apt a name for this tribe as a unit.

See I was thinking this too - give him the moriah decoy vote and then axe him when he's calmed down, but it seems like no one actually wanted to get rid of him, because he's a hard worker and not a great strategist.

I have to admit I actually wasn't sure who was about to go home at TC. They gave both boot options juuust little enough attention this episode that I could see it going either way.

Yeah he’s going to be super easy to toss aside at any point later on unless he turns into an absolute challenge beast. And based on the 2 challenges we saw there’s not much danger of that.

Playing perfectly into my poison pick!

I was very annoyed at how inept Gabler was at those table puzzles though. Despite not really feeling Sami in preseason he actually did super well and not to mention got a major hero edit so I imagine we can count on him for the long haul.

Ryan also got quite a hero edit too, and seems insanely likeable so I wouldn't be mad at seeing him do well (so far).

We didn't get great shots of the actual movements they were making. I am going to go out on a limb and say that the heart valve specialist has decent fine motor skills. The pet cremator is better at being vocal, if not communicative.

The real truth is that they're both poisons and will both flame out early for equal and opposite reasons. It's just I think I can get more points off the old guy.

Nah I checked, he's right, he specializes in selling heart valves. Different focus with being a medical device and all, and I'm sure based on some photos he's not above being in the OR for certain situations, but yeah he's not installing them like they make it sound.

Really different casting leans here. Three sales guys, two LGBT PMs, two Berkley grads. It feels like one of casting personnel was a housing director at a university at some point and absolutely loved grouping people together on random shared traits.

Thankee kindly.
I'm confused with Gabler's idol - can it be used on both TCs, or is it only good for either of his first two TCs? Because usually you also just hand the idol once to Probst and he keeps it.

The cast is fine but I'm not really vibing with them yet. It's unfair but I'm comparing a lot of them to S42's cast. 'Oh, Morriah is like Maryanne.' 'Sami works with pets so he reminds me of Omar.' It'll get better as the season goes on though and I already like a few people (which is basically... 2/3rds of the Blue tribe).

Oh and here's the top 9, a number chosen based on how much I can fit in the screengrabber.

Some familiar faces at the top! The key so far seems to be dodging players who are a part of the losing tribe.

Personally, I'm not much for that. This is fun but I do wish they'd reconsider how they score things. For sure, winning the challenge should be worth something, but personally, surviving a tribal and influencing the outcome is more impressive. I don't quite know how to score things based on that as it's somewhat subjective, but just being on a tribe that wins, even if you sit out shouldn't get you points IMO. Like this last week, red shouldn't have gotten a bunch of points for squeaking out a victory. Give those points to Cody for figuring something out that even the dream team didn't catch. Yeah, it's biased at that point but I think I'd like that a lot better. Kinda how fast luck ran the stockmarket in Let's Play.

Agreed, especially since every player from the losing team costs you both the points you don't win, and the penalty points for 'losing flint'.

Well there are some bonus points that can only be earned at tribal (playing immunity idols / advantages / shot in the dark even). But there is nothing for "influencing" a tribal, but there wouldn't really be a fair way to score that, since it's up to what the producers show instead of what may or may not have actually happened. Also all players in the game get points when someone besides them gets voted out.

(Here is the score list though - https://tribal-council.com/rules )

Yeah, I have seen it and I get what they're going for. It's a little bit of a rinky-dink site so I get that they're a little limited.

I'd really like to see a system that allows for the commish of the league to adjust how things are scored for their league. And sure, we're only getting what we see but it's still an edited tv product and even things that seem objective have often not been in the show's history.

That is to say: this is still fun even though it's stupid.

I'd keep it very simple and score it based on survival with a bonus to FTC votes. So like, if your 5 starting players all survive a round, 5 points. As the game whittles down you won't have that many active players still alive and points dry up. Then because being Romeo isn't as good as being Mike or Maryanne, you get a point or two for each FTC vote received, maybe an additional bonus for having the winner.

For real fun give a 3 point bonus each round if your active player wins the Fishy.

you missed the start of the "New Era." Three seasons in and we're consistently getting small starting tribes, players losing their votes on these tribes as part of various advantage plays, and no swaps.

Season 42 was a top notch season.

Okay so they were good to seasons despite all the bullshit that pushed me away from the show in the first place! (Also Survivor was on at the same time as AEW Dynamite and a pinball league I played in at the time)

Thank you for the courtesy spoiler, I decided to get back into Survivor because a guy that does an unrelated podcast I like also does a Survivor one, and I enjoy his content. Last thing I did before jumping back in was to check the winners on the last two seasons I watched, and saw that it wasn't two more white guys so I'm back in.

Also turns out the DVR was still saving last season so I might go back and watch that NO PROMISES

Yeah, I think I like that better. There's not much as intrigue and scorable events, which are fun, but I think it accounts for what the nerds who are playing thing would value in a survivor player more.

Like go back to 41. How could you give someone like Heather more points than Shan/Ricard pre-merge? It just doesn't make much sense.

It is stupid the scoring system takes 2 points away for losing the flint. But otherwise, I truly think the scoring system would be fine. Going and surviving tribal shouldn't be worth more points than just not going to tribal in the first place.

Also players the spread their picks around on different tribes are going to have a bad first couple weeks, but possibly more likely to do better later in the season. I went all in on Coco tribe, so if they start losing then I'm just hosed. Which I guess goes back to the flint deduction. Anyone that went all in on the tribe that lost last week, just loses 10 points.
